Indian American Impact has endorsed Nirav Shah in his campaign for the United States Senate from Maine.
According to a statement from the organization, Shah would become only the second South Asian American ever elected to the U.S. Senate if he wins, and the only South Asian American currently serving in the chamber.
Indian American Impact had previously endorsed Shah in his campaign for governor of Maine earlier this year. The organization said Shah enters the Senate race with strong grassroots support. During his gubernatorial campaign, he held more than 30 town halls, more than any other candidate in the primary. He also finished first in the initial round of voting, carrying both of Maine’s congressional districts and winning more towns than any other candidate.
Indian American Impact Executive Director Chintan Patel said, “We are proud to endorse Nirav Shah for United States Senate because Maine deserves a fighter, not another term of Susan Collins enabling Trump’s corruption after nearly thirty years in Washington. Nirav has already earned that trust with Mainers, finishing first in the initial round of voting for governor with real grassroots strength.”
Patel said Shah has consistently demonstrated steady and effective leadership during times of crisis and is now prepared to advocate for lowering health care costs, holding billionaires and corporations accountable, and standing up for immigrant communities in the face of attacks by President Donald Trump.
Indian American Impact has stood with Shah from his first campaign, and IA Impact is proud to stand with him again as he takes on Susan Collins, Patel added.
