Indian Consulate in Houston Marks Independence Day with Community Celebrations

India’s Consul General in Houston, D.C. Manjunath, attended the India Association of North Texas’ 49th Anand Bazaar in Frisco, Texas, held in celebration of India’s 80th Independence Day.

Manjunath addressed the gathering and extended Independence Day greetings, highlighting the Indian diaspora’s important role in strengthening ties between India and the United States.

Frisco Mayor Mark Hill, elected officials, community leaders and a large number of Indian Americans attended the celebration.

According to a statement from the Consulate General of India in Houston, the event featured cultural and musical performances, including classical songs that showcased India’s cultural heritage.

“The celebrations also commemorated 150 years of Vande Mataram, celebrating its enduring message of patriotism, unity, and devotion to the nation,” the statement said.

On August 15, the consulate also marked India’s 80th Independence Day with a flag-hoisting ceremony at the chancery. Members of the Indian diaspora and friends of India attended the event with enthusiasm and patriotic fervor.

“The program began with the recital of the national song Vande Mataram, followed by the flag hoisting, national anthem, and remarks by distinguished guests,” the statement said. “The ceremony also featured patriotic songs, an exhibition of specially commissioned paintings on the Viksit Bharat 2047 theme, and recognition of winners of the Bharat Ko Janiye (BKJ) Quiz.”

After hoisting the Indian national flag, Manjunath read the address delivered by the president of India to the nation on the eve of the 80th Independence Day. He thanked attendees for their continued commitment to India and encouraged them to participate actively in the country’s journey toward Viksit Bharat.

University of Houston Chancellor Renu Khator, Fort Bend County Judge Daniel Wong, Harris County Commissioner Lesley Briones, Fort Bend County Commissioner Dexter McCoy, Sugar Land City Council member Sanjay Singhal, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn’s Regional Director Jay Guerrero, Judge Juli Mathew and Judge Surendran Pattel also attended.

Senior officials representing Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo, Fort Bend County Commissioner Andy Myers and Houston Mayor John Whitmire joined the celebration and presented greetings and proclamations.
