On her birthday, July 3, Sheena Chohan received a memorable gift—a career milestone as filmmaker Pankaj Parashar officially announced her as the negative lead in his upcoming OTT series. The espionage drama is scheduled to go on floors this September.
Parashar, the acclaimed filmmaker behind iconic films such as Jalwa, Chaalbaaz and Banaras: A Mystic Love Story, had also created the iconic television detective series Karamchand, one of India’s most beloved TV classics, the serial that marked big-time for actor Pankaj Kapur. Chaalbaaz earned Sridevi her first Filmfare Award for Best Actress in a Hindi film, while Himalayputra introduced Akshaye Khanna.
Parashar is known for creating memorable female characters and has directed some of Indian cinema’s biggest leading ladies, including Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit, Dimple Kapadia and Sushmita Sen.
Speaking about casting Chohan, Parashar said, “I am happy to choose Sheena as the negative lead for my next OTT series because she has the exact credentials needed for the character, especially with her training in Martial Arts. She’s also super-enthusiastic and committed as an actress. I really like her dedication to her craft.”
Responding to the announcement, Chohan said, “It’s such a wonderful birthday gift to receive. I’ve always admired Pankaj-sir and the incredible, legendary female characters he has created over the years. So, when I met him at the Mumbai International Film Festival and he shared this project with me, I discussed my research process, how I approach understanding characters from the inside out and my ideas for bringing this fascinating negative lead to life. It gives me an opportunity to draw on my theatre training, Martial Arts and fitness to create a layered, powerful character. I’m truly excited to begin this journey.”
Chohan will next be seen in the pan-India South film, Jatasya Maranam Dhruvam, alongside J.D. Chakravarthy, wherein she plays a cop in an action-packed role featuring several action sequences. She has also appeared across leading streaming platforms, including Netflix’s The Fame Game alongside Madhuri Dixit and The Trial with Kajol. She also has an international web series lined up, in which she plays a striking she-devil, and has a slate of around five releases lined up this year.
Chohan continues to build a diverse body of work across languages and platforms. Before commencing the shoot for Parashar’s new series, she will be travelling to New York to speak at the United Nations, making this project announcement a fitting highlight as she celebrates her birthday month. She was also seen as the lead opposite Subodh Bhave in the Hindi film Sant Tukaram.
