South Asians for America, a national advocacy and political organization focused on mobilizing and empowering South Asian American communities across the United States, has announced its endorsement of Dr. Nirav Shah for Governor of Maine. The organization cited his longstanding commitment to public service, leadership during times of crisis, and the need for representation amid growing concerns within immigrant communities.

“As South Asian Americans and immigrants in Maine across this country face rising hostility and harmful rhetoric fueled by Donald Trump and his allies, it is more important than ever that we elect leaders who understand our communities and will stand up for our values,” said Harini Krishnan, Co-Founder and Co-National Director of South Asians for America. “Dr. Nirav Shah is a proven leader who has dedicated his career to protecting public health and serving others. As the son of immigrants from India, he brings a deeply personal understanding of both the challenges and the promise of this country. We are proud to support his campaign to lead the state of Maine.”

Dr. Shah’s career has centered on public service, including leading state health departments and guiding Maine through the COVID-19 pandemic with a steady, science-based approach. According to a statement from his campaign, his platform prioritizes lowering costs for families, strengthening communities, and addressing political extremism that affects working populations.

“I’m honored to have the support of South Asians for America,” said Dr. Nirav Shah. “As the son of immigrants from India, I know firsthand the sacrifices families make to build a better future, and I know how important it is to have leaders who see, understand, and fight for those communities. Here in Maine, and across our country, Donald Trump is targeting immigrants and dividing our country. We need to come together around our shared values and build a future that is more affordable, more inclusive, and more just for everyone. That’s the campaign we’re running, and I’m grateful to have South Asians for America with us in this fight.”

The endorsement follows a fourth consecutive poll indicating Dr. Shah’s lead in the Democratic primary. His campaign has also secured the endorsement of Lincoln County Sheriff Todd Brackett, alongside the rollout of policy proposals and a series of well-attended town halls across Maine.
