India Adds Four Medals, Awaits First 2026 Asian Games Gold

India’s pursuit of its first gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games continued Monday as the country added four medals on the second day of competition.

India secured two silver medals in shooting and two bronze medals, one each in shooting and women’s mixed martial arts.

China remained atop the medal standings, increasing its gold medal count to 23 from the 50 awarded so far. Host nation Japan ranked second with eight gold medals. China has won 38 medals overall, while Japan has collected 32 during the first two days of competition.

The second day brought more encouraging results for India, with mixed martial arts athlete Suchika Tariyal winning the country’s first medal outside shooting. Tariyal earned bronze in the women’s 62-kilogram category.

Himanshu Dhillon won silver in the men’s 10-meter air rifle individual event and helped India secure another silver in the team competition. Rudrankksh Balsaheb Patil completed India’s medal tally for the day with bronze in the individual 10-meter air rifle event.

India also delivered strong performances in team sports.

The Indian women’s hockey team recorded another commanding victory, defeating Indonesia 17-1. The result followed India’s 19-0 win over Uzbekistan in its opening match. With two victories and 36 goals, India leads its pool.

Navneet Kaur, Rutuja Pisal and Deepika scored three goals each for India, while Sakshi Rana, Sunelita Toppo and Lalremsiami struck twice apiece. Ishika and Salima Tete added one goal each. Adiyita Innes scored Indonesia’s lone goal.

In table tennis, the Indian men’s and women’s teams registered identical 3-0 victories over Pakistan.

India’s men’s kabaddi team faced stronger resistance from Japan after a comfortable first half but prevailed 49-24. In the women’s competition, India defeated Bangladesh 42-21.
