Pet-focused food startup Wagg n Dine has launched a cloud kitchen in Chennai, betting on rising demand for fresh, human-grade meals for pets amid a broader shift in India’s fast-growing pet care market.

The venture, unveiled at Taj Connemara on Tuesday, offers freshly cooked meals for dogs prepared using natural ingredients and delivered directly to customers’ homes. Positioned as an alternative to conventional processed pet food, the company aims to tap into increasing consumer preference for minimally processed, nutritionally balanced diets for pets.

India’s pet care industry is expanding at over 20% annually, with premium segments—including specialized pet food services such as cloud kitchens—gaining traction as urban pet ownership rises. Industry observers say the trend reflects the growing “humanization” of pets, where owners treat animals as family members and prioritize their health and nutrition.

Wagg n Dine operates a dedicated kitchen that prepares meals daily using fresh chicken, purified water and carefully sourced ingredients. The company said its model is designed to combine convenience with quality by delivering ready-to-serve meals tailored for dogs.

“India’s pet care landscape is undergoing a fundamental shift—from just feeding pets to nourishing family members,” said Manivannan, founder of Wagg n Dine. “With premium segments expanding rapidly, we see strong demand for fresh, clean-label meals, especially in urban markets like Chennai.”

The idea for the venture, the company said, stemmed from the founders’ concern over the widespread use of processed pet food despite growing awareness around healthy eating for humans.

Culinary expert Chef Damu, who attended the launch, said the concept addresses a critical gap in the market. “We are careful about what we eat, but often overlook what we feed our pets. This initiative brings that same level of care to pet nutrition,” he said.

Ahead of its official rollout, Wagg n Dine conducted trial runs with a select group of pet owners. The company said the feedback was positive, helping refine its recipes and preparation processes.

Chennai-based Wagg n Dine joins a growing cohort of startups seeking to disrupt the pet food segment, as changing lifestyles and higher disposable incomes reshape consumption patterns in urban India.
