Even as clarity is awaited on Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s proposed visit to India in the coming weeks, Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Indira Anand and India’s External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar met on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in Germany.

The meeting marked the fifth engagement between the two foreign ministers since September 2025. Their continued dialogue reflects renewed momentum in Canada–India relations, which are grounded in more than 75 years of diplomatic engagement and strong people-to-people connections.

Prime Minister Carney had deferred his travel to Germany following the Tumbler Ridge tragedy. However, no official update has been provided regarding his anticipated visits to India and Australia.

During their discussions in Munich, the ministers explored avenues to deepen cooperation across key sectors, including energy, technology, and trade. Acknowledging India as one of the world’s fastest-growing and most dynamic economies, Minister Anand emphasized its strategic importance as a partner for Canada.

Both ministers highlighted the shared technological advantages and significant opportunities for businesses, industries, and workers in both countries. They also reviewed progress on the joint road map for Canada–India relations announced in October 2025.

The ministers underscored substantive advancements under the roadmap and reaffirmed their commitment to implementing its priorities. They further emphasized efforts to expand and diversify bilateral trade to strengthen economic resilience and long-term stability in both nations.
