The India Association of Greater Boston (IAGB) announced the successful completion of its Republic Day Mela 2026, held on January 24 at Burlington High School, in Burlington, Massachusetts.
Organized under the theme “India in Harmony: The Five Elements,” the day-long celebration drew thousands of attendees from across New England and featured cultural performances, competitions, community showcases, and family-friendly activities, according to a statement from IAGB.
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts marked the occasion with an official proclamation, as Governor Maura T. Healey declared January 26 as Republic Day of India. IAGB expressed its gratitude to the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Secretary of the Commonwealth for “recognizing the significance of this day for the Indian American community.”

Dr. Purnanand Sarma, CEO of Aro Biotherapeutics and President of TiE Boston, served as the Chief Guest. IAGB also honored Girish Mehta, Founder and Executive Director of ICC, with the Community Catalyst Award.
Guests of Honor included Shruthi Purushotam, Deputy Consul General of India in Boston, and Dr. Manju Sheth, President of India New England Multimedia and Women Who Win. According to the statement, each guest shared thoughtful remarks recognizing IAGB’s role in fostering “unity, cultural pride, and civic engagement” across Greater Boston.
IAGB President Nilesh Agrawal expressed deep appreciation for the community’s strong participation and acknowledged the efforts of the Executive Committee, volunteers, choreographers, performers, sponsors, and partner organizations who contributed to the event’s success.

IAGB Vice President Deepak Garg supported key program areas, including coordination of competitions and youth-focused segments, helping ensure smooth execution throughout the day.
“Together, the leadership team emphasized that the celebration reaffirmed IAGB’s mission to strengthen cultural connection, civic engagement, and community pride across Greater Boston,” the statement added.
The Mela featured an extensive lineup of activities, including more than 300 performers presenting classical, folk, Bollywood, fusion, and thematic showcases; over 150 participants in art, chess, shark tank, music, and math competitions; and participation from more than 35 partner organizations, supporters, and media partners representing the region’s diverse Indian community. Attendees also explored a bustling marketplace with local vendors and cultural exhibits, along with a lively food court offering cuisine from The Treasury: Indian & Greek Kitchen.
The event concluded with a high-energy performance by Dhwani Band. Looking ahead, IAGB said it will continue its year-round programming with upcoming cultural, civic, and community service initiatives.
