The American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) hosted its 19th Annual Global Health Summit (GHS) 2026 from January 9 to 11 in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The three-day gathering brought together leading physicians, researchers, educators, and public health experts from India and the United States.

The summit was held across multiple venues, including the Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), Mayfair Lagoon, and Swosti Premium. According to AAPI, the program highlighted cutting-edge medical advancements, collaborative research efforts, and community-focused initiatives aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery in India.

AAPI President Dr. Amit Chakrabarty described the summit as a defining moment for Indo-U.S. medical collaboration. “GHS 2026 reflects AAPI’s unwavering commitment to elevating global health standards,” he said. “When experts from two of the world’s most dynamic healthcare systems come together, the impact extends far beyond conference halls—it reaches communities, hospitals, and future generations.”

India’s Minister for Health, Jagat Prakash Nadda, in a video message, praised AAPI for its contributions in both India and the United States. “AAPI stands as a powerful symbol of professional excellence, global leadership and dedicated service to humanity, representing over 100,000 Physicians of Indian origin practicing in the United States,” he said.

“AAPI has made remarkable contribution to healthcare, delivery, medical education, research and public health, not only in United States, but also across the world. What makes AAPI truly exceptional is its role as a vital bridge between India and the United States. Through sustained academic collaboration, knowledge exchange and capacity building, AAPI has significantly strengthened healthcare system in both nations.”

Nadda said he firmly believes that organizations like AAPI play a pivotal role in shaping a healthier, more inclusive, and more equitable world, guided by the Indian philosophy of ‘vasudhava kutumba,’ meaning the world is one family. “AAAPI reminds us that service beyond borders, is the highest form of leadership,” he added.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Achyuta Samanta highlighted the collaborative relationship between KIIT and AAPI, noting that KIIT is among India’s leading private universities, recognized for academic excellence, world-class infrastructure, and strong placement outcomes. Established in 1992, KIIT Bhubaneswar has evolved into a multidisciplinary institution offering undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in fields including engineering, management, law, medicine, and the humanities.

In his welcome address, Prof. R. C. Das underscored the significance of hosting the AAPI Global Health Summit at the institution’s premises. He said the Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences has redefined healthcare services in Odisha and neighboring states, driven by a commitment to promoting a healthy society and delivering advanced medical care.
