UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper will travel to China on Monday for a three-day official visit and then proceed to India to discuss global issues, including the Strait of Hormuz, the Russia–Ukraine war, and the Ebola outbreak in Africa.
“At the invitation of Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi, UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper will visit China from June 1 to 3,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry confirmed said in a statement.
Cooper is expected to hold talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. She will also take part in the 11th China-UK Strategic Dialogue, the spokesperson said.
Following her China trip, Cooper will travel to India as part of a wider two-nation tour centered on global security and economic cooperation.
According to the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, discussions in India will include the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and the Ebola outbreak in Africa.
In New Delhi, Cooper is scheduled to meet External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar for bilateral talks, followed by engagements with business leaders, academics, and policymakers.
Her India visit comes nearly a year after the signing of the UK-India Free Trade Agreement and the launch of the “UK–India Vision 2035,” which aims to deepen cooperation in trade, technology, and security.
