Indian-American women history makers endorse VP Harris for President

Indian-American women leaders who made history in their elections in Maryland, Virginia, and New York have endorsed VP Harris for President of the United States.

Harris, became the first woman and the first person of Indian-American and Black heritage to be Vice President in 2020. If she beats former President Donald Trump in the upcoming November elections, Harris will become the first-ever woman President of the United States.

 Lieutenant Governor of Maryland, Aruna Miller, who became the first ever Indian-American in the nation’s history to be sworn in to the post, endorsed VP Harris for President.

Lt. Gov. Miller said, “When Vice President Harris is sworn in as the 47th President of United States in January 2025, after almost 250 years, a woman of color will write our nation’s next chapter – one built on inclusivity, opportunity, and hope, showing the limitless possibilities that lie ahead for every young person in our nation.”

Virginia State Senator, Ghazala Hashmi, the first Indian-American to get elected to the Virginia General Assembly, said “I look ahead, now, to working with fellow Virginians as we soon nominate, and then elect, the next President of the United States,” thanking President Biden for implementing “historic programs,” that supported economic progress in Virginia.

Hashmi, the Chair of the Senate Education and Health Committee, highlighted the importance of President’s Biden’s decision to step aside came at a “critical time.”

She also praised President Biden’s appeal to “move forward with unity,” emphasizing the crucial resolve needed to safeguard the “democratic values.” 

New York State Assemblywoman, Jenifer Rajkumar, who the first Indian-American woman ever elected to a New York State Office, said she will proudly vote for VP Harris as the next President of the United States adding “As the first Indian American woman ever elected to a New York State Office, I am proud to cast a historic vote for the first Indian American and Black woman to serve as President of the United States.”
