Hindi theater with mystical and spiritual themes took center stage during a unique cultural gathering presented by Heramba Art and Culture Center in collaboration with Prayog Natya Sanstha. Titled “Beyond Understanding,” the May 9 event featured dramatic readings of three original Hindi plays that explored spirituality, coincidence, faith, and the unexplained.
Hosted by Abhishek Mishra at his residence under an intimate outdoor tent setting, the afternoon brought together Hindi literature enthusiasts, artists, and members of the community for what organizers described as a soulful cultural experience.

“The program featured dramatic readings of three original Hindi natak (plays),” noted a statement. “The unifying theme, ‘Beyond Understanding,’ ran through the short plays, each exploring the impact of mystical events and miraculous coincidences that leave a tangible imprint on human life. Each reading was followed by an interactive question-and-answer session with two scores and more invited guests, creating a warm, soulful atmosphere.”
The plays were written by Ashok Vyas, a New York-based poet, Hindu priest, and longtime television host known for more than 25 years of programming on ITV Gold. According to the statement, Vyas is also the creator of the YouTube channel HerambaStudio, which focuses on positive content and promotes the concept of universal oneness through Vedanta.
The first play, “Agyat Ka Bhay” (“Fear of the Unknown”), centered on a man battling despair and suicidal thoughts who experiences an emotional transformation following an unexpected visit with his wife to the Mishra residence.
“Through a series of seemingly chance events, intertwined with mysterious happenings at the Mishra home, he gradually regains his cheerful self,” the statement said. “The story touches on the fine line between coincidence and divine grace, drawing on successive, inexplicable manifestations of the divine, including the formation of a Shivalinga in snow and the appearance of Lord Krishna’s form on tiles.”

Abhishek and Namita Mishra portrayed themselves in the dramatic reading alongside other performers.
The second play, “Mystical Chai,” was described as a spiritual suspense drama set in the era of social media and artificial intelligence. The story follows a young man from New Jersey whose devotion to the Mother Goddess prompts broader questions about truth, faith, and the possibility of divine intervention in everyday life.
The final presentation, “Chief Controller,” explored themes of faith, divine protection, humanity, and unseen forces against the backdrop of rapid advances in artificial intelligence and technology. The story focused on the founders of a technology company generating more than $4 billion in revenue, including one character who believes he is protected by Gala Bhomiya ji, a lok devta from Rajasthan.
According to organizers, the play emphasized the importance of preserving human sensitivity amid accelerating technological growth, a message that resonated strongly with attendees.
The event also marked the soft launch of the New York-based Heramba Art and Culture Center, which has been active through HerambaStudio in organizing dharmic, spiritual, and mental health-focused programming.

The statement noted that Mishra welcomed guests, many of whom were supporters of Hindi literature and theater. Ameeya Mehta spoke about the journey of New Jersey-based Prayog Natya Sanstha, which he leads. Vineeta Khanna, founder of Orator Academy, performed a bhajan by Sant Kabir and a ghazal for attendees.
Among the distinguished guests were Parveen Chopra, founder of ALotusInTheMud.com; yoga exponent Vijay Trivedi; Pradeep Agarwal of Vishwa Hindi Nyas; Raj Mittal of Hindi USA; Dr. Om Sharma, founder of GICA Hanuman Mandir; and Ashok Ojha, program director of Yuva Hindi Sansthan.
Concluding the event, Namita Mishra thanked the playwright, performers, and audience members for their participation. Several attendees also visited the residence to observe what many described as remarkable divine imprints connected to the themes explored in the plays.
The afternoon concluded with a vegetarian lunch served to guests.
