In a powerful symbol of gender inclusion and operational readiness, women soldiers of the Indian Army have joined the 22nd edition of the multinational military exercise Khaan Quest in Mongolia.

The exercise, scheduled from June 14 to June 28, 2025, will see participation from military forces around the world, united in their aim to enhance peacekeeping capabilities under the United Nations framework.

The Indian Army contingent, comprising 40 personnel, includes a woman officer and two women soldiers—highlighting the growing presence and contributions of women in the armed forces. Drawn primarily from a battalion of the Kumaon Regiment and supported by personnel from other arms and services, the team reflects India’s commitment to integrated, inclusive military operations.

The participation of women soldiers in Khaan Quest underscores the evolving role of women in uniform, not just within India’s defense forces but on the global peacekeeping stage. These officers and troops will be at the forefront of training for complex missions that require precision, resilience, and coordinated multinational action.

Khaan Quest, which began as a bilateral U.S.-Mongolia exercise in 2003, became a multinational peacekeeping effort in 2006. This year’s edition builds on past exercises, such as the 2024 session held from July 27 to August 9, continuing to foster interoperability and mutual learning among participating nations.

The Indian contingent will engage in a wide array of tactical drills, including establishing checkpoints, cordon and search operations, combat first aid, casualty evacuation, counter-IED procedures, and the evacuation of civilians from conflict zones. These simulations are aimed at preparing troops for real-world peace support operations under Chapter VII of the UN Charter.

Beyond training, the presence of women in the Indian team serves as a strong statement on inclusivity and the expanding role of women in defense diplomacy. Their participation not only reflects India’s evolving defense ethos but also inspires further integration of women in global peace and security initiatives.

Exercise Khaan Quest continues to be a vital platform for fostering cooperation, professionalism, and camaraderie among the armed forces of partner nations—and this year, it does so with the empowering presence of India’s women warriors on the frontlines of peacekeeping training.
