Humble and easygoing to a fault, he has done his Masters in Arts in Krishna Kavya, excelling in the purely Hindi syntax of Krishnavtaram Part 1 as he has in Ek Din and the Dhurandhar franchise in the last 12 months alone.

Almost most of the films he has directed was a mega-hit, check Kishen Kanhaiya, Karan Arjun, Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai, Koi…Mil Gaya and Krrish. The legendary composer Roshan’s son, he has emerged as one of our frontline directors for two decades besides being the father of Hrithik Roshan.

His films may succeed or otherwise as per their merits and resonance, but Akshay Kumar, who will be the first of today’s ruling heroes to turn 60 after the Khans, still believes in doing multiple films every year. This year, his Welcome to the Jungle and Bhooth Bangla have done well, 35 years after his lead debut with Saugandh (1991). What’s more, he has been a prolific producer, even if he does not take official credit.

He came in with Vicky Donor (2012) simultaneously debuting as actor, singer and composer. Ayushmann has had a hit streak for a long while, acquiring a reputation for doing bold and innovative films like Badhai Ho, Bala and AndhaDhun. This year he is the new Sooraj R. Barjatya protégé with Yeh Prem Mol Liya and is also doing quirky comedy in Udta Teer.

Actress, activist and now all of 76, this daughter of veteran lyricist Kaifi Azmi has made winning awards a habit. From an art film debut with Ankur (1974) to commercial blockbusters like Amar Akbar Anthony, she has done it all. In recent times, she has excelled in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, Batwara 1947 and the series Dabba Cartel. And yes, she has done international work too.

The maverick filmmaker who started his career on a controversial note with Manzilein Aur Bhi Hai (1974) went on to win acclaim with Arth and Kaash and box-office validation with Naam and Aashiqui. Unabashedly commercial since then, this son of filmmaker Nanabhai Bhatt and father to Pooja Bhatt and Alia Bhatt has introduced or mentored a slew of newcomers on or behind the screen to the industry.

Along with cousin Ranbir Kapoor, this daughter of Randhir Kapoor and Babita has kept the Kapoor family flag flying high almost a century after her great-grandfather Prithviraj Kapoor began his innings in 1929. Married to Saif Ali Khan, this Diva has been a topper in films for over 26 years, also a favorite of not only the three Khans but also Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn in their home productions. Her recent Daayra saw another outstanding performance.

The younger daughter of veteran star Shobhana Samarth (after Nutan) and now mom to Kajol and Tanishaa, at 83, Tanuja remains a fiery individual as she has always been. The crème-de-la-crème of her films include Jewel Thief, Jeene Ki Raah, Haathi Mere Saathi, Anubhav and Imtihan. Among her last releases were Son of Sardaar, A Death in the Gunj and Shonar Pahar (2018) in Bengali, besides Modern Love: Mumbai (2022). The versatile actress has done films in Hindi, Marathi (her mother-tongue) and six other languages.

A journalist-turned-actor, Prem Chopra began as a leading man, switched to villainy and is now a character actor, doing comic and serious roles with equal aplomb. At a fit 91, he is an endless repository of stories of the olden times. Shaheed, Upkar, Do Raaste, Bobby, Do Anjaane and more have seen Chopra at his very best among over 350 films in about six decades.

The vivacious Wamiqa Gabbi has had a long struggle phase from tiny roles and to leads in regional films. She first grabbed attention with the web series, Grahan (2021) followed by Jubilee and Khufiya and made a whopper impact with Pati Patni Aur Woh Do and the Tamil DC this year. Her films to come include Prahaar, the Nana Patekar-Bhuvan Bam starrer Kuku Ki Kundli and films in Punjabi and the South.
