Jag Nagendra, a South Asian community leader and candidate for Folsom City Council in District 3, has won the endorsement of the Sacramento Area Fire Fighters, IAFF Local 522, adding a major public-safety labor group to his campaign.
Local 522, which represents about 1,900 firefighters across eight agencies, including Folsom Fire, said Nagendra’s sustained involvement in the Folsom community was a key factor in its decision.
The endorsement comes as Nagendra seeks to translate more than a decade of civic and community involvement into a seat on the City Council. His campaign highlights fiscal sustainability, public safety and emergency services, economic development, and the preservation of parks, trails and open spaces.
Nagendra said the endorsement was particularly meaningful because of the role firefighters play in protecting the community.
“This recognition means so much to me. It’s the result of decades of hard work, and it’s deeply emotional to receive this kind of trust from the men and women who keep our community safe,” Nagendra said.
“I have incredible respect for our public safety personnel and their dedication to protecting every one of us, and I’m honored to have their confidence as I run to serve Folsom,” he said.
Dan Carson, the SAFF Local 522 Folsom Unit representative, said the union was impressed by Nagendra’s consistency and continued engagement with residents.
“What stands out most about Jag Nagendra is his consistency,” Carson said, citing Nagendra’s participation over the past two years in community events, city meetings and conversations with residents throughout Folsom.
Carson said Nagendra’s sustained involvement demonstrated a level of preparation and commitment that would be valuable on the City Council.
Nagendra immigrated to the United States from India and became involved with South Asian community organizations during his early years in the country. His civic work has since expanded to regional nonprofit boards and public commissions across Sacramento County.
A control systems engineer, Nagendra has more than 35 years of experience in engineering, project management and executive leadership in the private and public sectors. He currently serves as a principal engineer with the California Department of Water Resources.
He is also a Project Management Professional and Distinguished Toastmaster. His community leadership includes more than 15 years of service, including an eight-year tenure on nonprofit boards and civic commissions in the Sacramento region.
Nagendra was recently named to the 2026 class of the Top 60 Change Makers, a joint recognition program of The Sacramento Bee and the Nehemiah Leaders Programs.
His campaign has placed public safety and emergency services among its central priorities, alongside responsible city finances, business and economic development and the protection of Folsom’s parks, trails and open spaces.
The Local 522 endorsement gives Nagendra support from a prominent public-safety constituency as he campaigns for the District 3 council seat.
