The Consulate General of India (CGI) in Houston has announced its association with the Genuine Cup, a global initiative that promotes “inclusion, teamwork, and humanity” through sport.
Launched in 2024 by the Houston-based Genuine Foundation, the tournament has expanded from 12 teams to participation from more than 50 countries in just three years. According to CGI Houston, the event brings together athletes with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) and autism to compete on a unified international stage.
“This noble initiative reflects values that resonate deeply with the Indian community and our shared commitment to building compassionate and connected societies,” the Consulate said. It added that Consul General D. C. Manjunath welcomed #TeamIndia on July 29, 2026, for an evening of interaction and appreciation.
During the gathering, Manjunath congratulated the young athletes on representing India for the first time in the third edition of the international tournament. He encouraged them to compete with “spirit and integrity” and commended their “dedication” in representing India on the global stage.
According to the statement, the Consulate also joined organizers, sponsors, supporters, and members of the Consular Corps at the Partnership Celebration on July 31, recognizing the values of “sportsmanship, inclusion, charity, and the essence of humanity that define the Genuine Cup.”
On the tournament’s final day, CGI Houston said it was a proud moment as #TeamIndia reached the final of its group in its debut appearance at the competition. Consul General Manjunath, along with a large number of supporters, joined the team to cheer them on.
Although the tournament concluded with a closing ceremony on August 1, the Consulate said the event marked the beginning of a broader journey of “assimilation and empowerment” for all participants, while laying a roadmap for greater inclusion and opportunities for the wider IDD community.
CGI Houston also expressed its appreciation to the Genuine Foundation, Torras Lombana Foundation, Tricon Energy, Rice University, and all other stakeholders whose “vision, action, and generosity” continue to make the Genuine Cup a global platform for “unity and positive change.”
The Consulate said it looks forward to strengthening its partnership in advancing the initiative and supporting its mission of inclusion through sports.
