Ambassador of India to the United States Vinay Mohan Kwatra visited Atlanta from August 2-4, 2026, engaging with the Indian diaspora, academic leaders, and the business community to further strengthen the India-U.S. Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.
During the visit, Ambassador Kwatra met with Georgia Governor Brian Kemp and congratulated him on his successful tenure, during which the state has experienced sustained economic growth and reinforced its reputation as one of the most business-friendly states in the United States.
The Ambassador praised Governor Kemp’s commitment to building a “globally competitive economy” and thanked him for his continued support of Georgia’s vibrant Indian American community.
On August 2, Ambassador Kwatra attended a community reception attended by approximately 200 prominent members of the Indian diaspora. In his address, he expressed appreciation for the community’s outstanding contributions to both the United States and India, noting that Indian Americans continue to serve as a vital bridge in strengthening the India-U.S. partnership.
He also commended the community for promoting India’s rich cultural heritage while making significant contributions across a wide range of sectors in the United States.
The event also included a special felicitation honoring Padma Bhushan awardee and internationally renowned marketing scholar Dr. Jagdish Sheth for his exceptional contributions to academia over more than six decades and for his role in “advancing intellectual and people-to-people ties” between India and the United States.
On August 3, the Consulate General of India (CGI) in Atlanta hosted an Education Roundtable that brought together leaders from nearly 20 leading universities across the southeastern United States, including the Georgia Institute of Technology, Emory University, Vanderbilt University, the University of Florida, and several other premier institutions.
In his keynote address, Ambassador Kwatra highlighted the significant potential for expanding India-U.S. educational collaboration through “joint research, faculty and student exchanges, dual-degree programmes, innovation partnerships, and study abroad initiatives.”
He also underscored the transformative vision of India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which places international collaboration at the center of higher education reforms and has created new opportunities for global academic partnerships.
According to the CGI, the Ambassador invited leading U.S. universities to explore opportunities under India’s framework for the setting up and operation of campuses of foreign higher educational institutions in India, as well as broader collaborations with Indian institutions.
The U.S.-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF), in partnership with the CGI, also hosted a business reception in honor of Ambassador Kwatra. The event brought together more than 35 senior executives representing leading companies across the southeastern United States, including several Fortune 500 corporations headquartered in Atlanta, such as The Home Depot, UPS, Delta Air Lines, The Coca-Cola Company, AGCO, Global Payments, Graphic Packaging International, and Intercontinental Exchange.
According to the CGI, Ambassador Kwatra highlighted India’s “economic transformation, robust growth trajectory, and expanding opportunities in manufacturing, innovation, digital technologies, and advanced industries.”
He invited U.S. companies to deepen their engagement with India by leveraging the country’s expanding market, skilled workforce, and enabling policy environment.
Referring to the presence of major Indian investors in the region, including Novelis and Birla Carbon, the Ambassador noted the growing depth of two-way investment flows. He emphasized that the southeastern United States, with its “industrial strength, world-class logistics infrastructure, innovation ecosystem, and growing connectivity” with India, is well positioned to contribute to the shared India-U.S. goal of achieving USD 500 billion in bilateral trade.
