With the rich history of 250 plus years of Madame Tussauds, the world’s 24th Madame Tussauds attraction, has found an elegant home inside the historic Palazzo Dorottya in the heart of Hungary’s capital. During our Eastern Europe journey in March, this much-anticipated stop proved to be one of the most engaging and visually captivating experiences in Budapest.

From the moment we stepped inside, the extraordinary craftsmanship of the wax figures was evident. Each figure reflects painstaking attention to detail, brought to life by skilled artists and enhanced by an immersive visual world designed by acclaimed Hungarian creative Kentaur. The result is not merely an exhibition, but a theatrical journey through history, culture, and celebrity.

For over two centuries, Madame Tussauds has drawn millions of curious visitors, and Budapest’s edition continues that tradition with flair. At its core lies a simple yet powerful appeal: the human fascination with fame, history, and storytelling.

One of the standout highlights is the striking showcase dedicated to Taylor Swift, featuring 13 figures styled in fan-favorite looks from her iconic 1989 era. Created in collaboration with renowned fashion houses such as Versace, Vivienne Westwood, and Christian Louboutin, the display is a glamorous fusion of music and haute couture, meticulously curated under the direction of senior stylist Danielle Cullen.

The exhibition features 51 lifelike figures, including 17 Hungarian icons who have shaped the nation’s identity across generations. Visitors can come face-to-face with legendary personalities such as illusionist Harry Houdini, Olympic champion Katinka Hosszú, composer Ferenc Liszt, football legend Ferenc Puskás, and visionary scientist John von Neumann, among others. This thoughtful inclusion grounds the global brand firmly in Hungarian heritage.

Beyond the figures, Budapest itself plays a starring role. The exhibition cleverly weaves in replicas and references to the city’s iconic architecture and landmarks, creating a rich sense of place. As we moved through themed zones, strolling along a stylized Danube promenade, stepping into a spa-inspired installation, and passing through the atmospheric “Tunnel” the experience felt both immersive and distinctly local.

Of course, international stars add their own excitement. We posed alongside familiar faces like Chuck Norris, Pope Francis, Peter Falk, and Queen Elizabeth II, capturing fun, photo-worthy moments that brought a sense of playful realism to the visit.

The attraction goes far beyond static displays. Interactive touchscreens, dynamic light and sound show, immersive audiovisual content, and even VR adventures keep visitors engaged throughout. Thoughtfully designed “selfie points” invite guests to become part of the scene, while the stylish Cinema Café and curated souvenir shop provide a fitting finale to the experience.

In all, Madame Tussauds Budapest is more than a wax museum, it’s a vibrant, multi-sensory celebration of culture and creativity. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, pop culture fan, or simply a curious traveler, this attraction offers a memorable and uniquely Hungarian twist on a globally beloved institution.
