Etihad Airways is ramping up its United States operations, announcing plans to double its daily service to Chicago O’Hare International Airport and increase flights to Charlotte to a daily schedule, as the carrier deepens connectivity between North America, India and Asia-Pacific markets.

The Abu Dhabi-based airline said flights between Abu Dhabi and Chicago will increase to twice daily from June 15, while its recently launched Charlotte route will be upgraded from four weekly services to daily operations over the same period through Sept. 8.

The expansion comes less than three months after Etihad began flying to Charlotte on March 20, underscoring strong early demand on the route and marking one of the fastest capacity increases in the airline’s network.

Together, the changes significantly expand Etihad’s U.S. footprint and are aimed at strengthening one-stop connections via Abu Dhabi to key destinations across India and the broader Asia-Pacific region. The airline is also seeking to tap into onward domestic U.S. travel through its partner carriers.

“Chicago continues to be a cornerstone of our U.S. network,” Arik De, Etihad’s chief revenue and commercial officer, said in a statement, adding that the move to double-daily flights would offer greater flexibility and deepen links to high-demand markets.

Chicago is among Etihad’s longest-served North American gateways, and the added frequency is expected to improve connectivity to multiple Indian cities, including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai, as well as regional hubs such as Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Manila.

The airline will deploy its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on both routes, configured with 32 business class and 271 economy seats.

In Charlotte, Etihad said the rapid move to daily service reflects a mix of strong point-to-point demand and connecting traffic. The North Carolina city provides access to the southeastern United States, a region with growing business and diaspora travel links to South Asia.

“We are grateful to the people of Charlotte for the strong support they have shown since launch,” De said, noting that the quick scale-up signals the route’s growing importance within Etihad’s U.S. network.

The airline said the additional capacity will also support cargo flows and inbound travel to the United States, while improving access for U.S.-based passengers to destinations across the Middle East, South Asia and beyond.

The latest move is part of Etihad’s broader strategy of phased network expansion, with capacity increases tied closely to demand trends. The carrier has been rebuilding and selectively growing its long-haul network after a period of restructuring, with India and Asia-Pacific markets remaining central to its growth plans.
