Exactly doing what my feature on December 2 (“Appreciate Them In Life, Not Later!”) stated is avoidable, yet welcome ironically on sheer merit, the legendary Dharmendra has been honored too late yet again.
After posthumously awarded the Padma Vibhushan by the government of India, and the Times of India Film Awards’ recognition for “Contribution to Cinema”, the eternally- and globally-loved icon has now been recognized—too late as always!—by the Jaipur International Film Festival authorities.
The 18th Jaipur International Film Festival (JIFF) 2026, 9th New Delhi Film Festival (NDFF) 2026, and Global Cine Confluence (GCC) – Delhi Film Convention & Summit 2026 will be held as a joint event from February 13-15, at Bharat Mandapam and the India International Centre, New Delhi.
Sharing details of this combined event, founder-director Hanu Roj announced that Dharmendra will be conferred with the Outstanding Achievement Award in recognition of his unparalleled contribution to Indian cinema.
The press release gives out the following universally-known facts: Dharmendra has gifted Indian cinema with numerous timeless classics that continue to inspire audiences and filmmakers alike. “Films such as Phool Aur Patthar (1966), Anupama (1966), Mera Gaon Mera Desh (1971), Rakhwala (not a significant release incidentally, in 1971), Sholay(1975), Chupke Chupke (1975), Pratiggya (1975), and Dharam-Veer (1977) have secured his immortal place in cinematic history. Beyond acting, his contributions as a producer and mentor have further enriched the Indian film industry. His legacy stands as a testament to integrity, humility, and an unwavering passion for the art of filmmaking.”
From the above “research”, Yaadon Ki Baraat is missing, as are later releases of import like Apne and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. And there is no mention of his Mumbai studio, Super Sunny Sound.
The joint film festival will feature over 600 films from more than 60 countries, competing across various categories. During the festival, more than 1,000 filmmakers, directors, actors, actresses, and film industry professionals from approximately 40 countries are expected to arrive in Delhi to participate in this global cinematic gathering.
