Raat Akelli Hai Returns with a Sequel

Netflix has announced the sequel to the crime thriller franchise Raat Akeli Hai with Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders. This is the first sequel seen of any film released on OTT and is thus a landmark movie.

The second installment will see Honey Trehan return to the director’s chair and have Smita Singh reprise her role as the film’s writer. Produced by RSVP and MacGuffin Pictures, the film marks the return of Nawazuddin Siddiqui as the sharp, no-nonsense Inspector Jatil Yadav, alongside Chitrangada Singh, Rajat Kapoor, Deepti Naval, Revathy, Akhilendra Mishra, Priyanka Setia, Sanjay Kapoor, Ila Arun, and Radhika Apte (the last two artistes are repeated along with Siddiqui).

While Ila is cast as Jatil’s mother, it is a tangy thing to have Radhika again here, for she was the mistress of a murdered rich man in the earlier story.

Set a few years after the events of the first film, which was released in 2020 to positive reception, Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders follows Inspector Jatil as he is drawn into another complex investigation, a chilling case of murder committed in cold blood. This leads to the unravelling of long-buried secrets within a powerful family. As the mystery deepens, Jatil is once again compelled to confront the delicate balance between truth and consequence.

The Netflix film will have its World Premiere at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, this November, marking its first showcase to audiences ahead of its release.

Reprising his role in the sequel, Nawazuddin Siddiqui added, “Jatil Yadav is a character very close to me, flawed and restless, yet relentless in the pursuit of justice. In the sequel, he faces a case that tests everything he believes in. Smita and Honey have created a world that feels real and raw, where every clue hides a secret. Coming back as Inspector Jatil Yadav feels like returning to unfinished business.”

Expressing gratitude to RSVP, MacGuffin Pictures, and Netflix for giving him the chance to explore new layers of this character, Siddiqui added “I am excited for audiences to see more from the man behind the uniform.”
