As anticipation continues to build around Yash Raj Films Alpha, two of the film’s key creative collaborators has opened up about the dedication and commitment that went into bringing its ambitious action sequences to life.

Internationally-acclaimed action director Craig Macrae, who has worked with some of the biggest global female action stars like Charlize Theron and Milla Jovovich, is full of praise for leading ladies Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, crediting their preparation, discipline and work-ethic to pull off some really brutal hand- to-hand action sequences.

Macrae prepares us to expect the unexpected from Bhatt. He says, “What sets Alia apart from those other female stars is that I think her work-ethic is absolutely incredible. She’s really put in a lot of time and a lot of effort into preparing for Alpha. She was really dedicated to the movie and I think that’s going to be the thing that really makes a huge difference in her on-screen presence.” He added that Alia’s commitment extended beyond the film’s demanding action requirements and into every aspect of her performance.

“Not only just for the action preparation, she obviously did a lot of work for the preparation as the character as well. She’s one of those people that you can really feel is willing to put in the amount of work that is required and then some, to go above and beyond what’s needed for the film.”

Macrae credits Alia’s and Sharvari’s brilliant team work to bring to life the action sequences that people will see in Alpha. “The two were absolutely incredible for this movie. The preparation that they put into it, the work that they put into preparing for this movie physically and with their skills training and stunt training was absolutely incredible. It’s very rare to find people who are willing to put in the amount of time and effort that Alia and Sharvari put into this movie,” he said.

Macrae goes on, “That really made our lives a lot easier as action designers and as a stunt team, because we had actors that were so well-equipped and really well-prepared for the action that we were designing in the film. It gave us a lot more ability to be able to design everything and anything that we wanted to in the movie, knowing that the actors were going to be able to execute the action.”

Bobby Deol too enjoyed shooting Alpha and going ‘toe-to-toe’ with Bhatt. A story of an assassin raised and built to kill, Deol feels it is quite cool that a film featuring two girls doing action has been made in India and hopes that people will give Alpha a lot of love.

He said, “I’m very fond of Ranbir and Alia, and I always wanted to work with both of them. With Ranbir, I did Animal, and with Alia, I have now done Alpha. I had the best time working with both of them. Alpha is new, it is refreshing, and a new visual for the audience to watch in theatres.”

“Alia is one of the most hardworking and sincere actors I’ve worked with. She comes to the set completely prepared, deeply invested in every scene. She has never done this kind of action before, and I was amazed seeing how prepared she was for the shoot. I could see she was giving her all because action is hard to pull off, and she went for it,” says Deol.

He added, “Adi and director Shiv Rawail had a clear vision that the action should look real and raw. So, it was a tough shoot for both of us, and I’m glad we have a film that everyone should sit back, relax and hopefully enjoy thoroughly.”

Alpha, directed by Rawail (of the global hit series The Railway Men fame), also stars Anil Kapoor in a pivotal role and release in theatres on 3rd July worldwide. It is produced by Aditya Chopra.
