Some battles are fought in court. Others are fought within. Netflix unveiled the trailer of Ikka, offering audiences a deeper look into a gripping courtroom drama where justice, family and conviction collide. Produced by Alchemy Films and led by Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna, the film reveals a world where every choice carries a consequence and every verdict comes at a cost.
At the center of the story is Arjun Mehra (Sunny Deol), a celebrated lawyer known for his unwavering principles and belief in justice. As he says in the trailer, “Hum court mein jeetne ke liye nahin, haq ke liye ladhte hain (I fight for someone’s rights in court, not to win)!”: a line that captures his very essence.
But when a high-profile attempted murder case forces him to defend Shauryamann Gaur (Akshaye Khanna), everything he stands for is put to the test. What begins as a legal battle soon becomes a conflict that challenges his convictions, his relationships and the life he has built.
The trailer offers a glimpse into the people caught in the moral dilemmas surrounding the case. Tillotama Shome is Madhura Banerjee, a determined public prosecutor whose pursuit of justice places her on a collision course with Arjun, while Dia Mirza plays Avantika, Arjun’s wife, who finds herself trying to protect her family as the consequences of the case begin to seep into every corner of their lives.
Packed with courtroom confrontations, emotionally-charged moments and shifting loyalties, the trailer showcases a story where every character is forced to confront difficult choices and their consequences.
Sunny Deol said, “Ikka is not just a courtroom drama. It is a story about family, relationships and the difficult choices life forces you to make. Arjun is a man who believes in doing what is right, but circumstances push him to question everything around him. His pain, his anger, his silence and his fight for what he believes in are what drew me to this character.”
Deol highlighted that when he signs a film, he never has an inkling about its future status, like his “Taareek pe taareek” line or the “Dhai kilo ka haath” one in Damini, the last film in which he played a lawyer 33 years ago. He had affectionate memories with Akshaye, with whom he had worked in the 1997 Border, and known since ages, as he was his late father Dharmendra’s contemporary, Vinod Khanna’s son.
The film’s trailer introduces all the actors by name, but Sunny is introduced as “Dharmendra’s son Sunny Deol”. At a guess, this is probably because Ikka is Sunny’s first release after his father’s demise last November.
Dia Mirza shared, “Avantika is someone who brings warmth, strength and stability to those around her, even when life becomes increasingly uncertain. I was drawn to her resilience and the quiet courage with which she navigates the challenges that come her way. What makes Ikka special is that beneath the courtroom drama lies a deeply human story about family, love and difficult choices. I am delighted to be back on Netflix with a story that is both emotionally rich and deeply engaging, and I look forward to audiences experiencing it.”
Tillotama Shome added, “Madhura is someone who believes deeply in doing the right thing, regardless of the odds. I was drawn to her integrity, resilience and quiet determination. She is a strong woman who isn’t afraid to stand her ground or take on the toughest challenges, even when the pressure is immense. This is a story that constantly challenges its characters, and I enjoyed exploring those complexities alongside such a talented cast.”
Though Akshaye Khanna was not present at the trailer launch, but those on board, including director Siddharth P. Malhotra, raved about him and specifically also Deol. Shome spoke about how terrified she was of Deol until she saw his “kind eyes” and Dia remembered that the first scene she shot for the film was her slapping Khanna, a man she met for the very first time.
Malhotra thanked Netflix for backing him after Maharaj and declared that Ikka was the easiest of all films he had made so far, a list that also includes Hichki.
Ikka premieres July 10 on Netflix.
