The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) of Washington, D.C., hosted its annual Dussehra celebration on October 24, 2026, at its temple in Potomac, Maryland, bringing together families, community leaders and local officials.

Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, commemorates Lord Ram’s victory over Ravan and symbolizes the triumph of truth, righteousness and virtue over evil, according to a statement from ISKCON. The organization said the celebration honored those values and brought together members of the Montgomery County community.

Temple President Ananda Vrindavan welcomed guests on behalf of ISKCON of D.C. and reflected on Dussehra’s message that truth and virtue prevail. She thanked community members and guests for joining the celebration in a spirit of devotion, dharma and harmony, the statement said.

ISKCON said a dosa counter led by temple chef Saci Suta Das was popular with visiting dignitaries. Buses also transported devotees to the temple for the festivities.

Following the remarks, the temple’s troupe presented a Ram Leela performance depicting the story of Lord Ram, Sita, Lakshman and Ravan through traditional theater.

The evening concluded with Ravan Dahan, the ceremonial burning of an effigy of Ravan, symbolizing the victory of good over evil. Attendees chanted “Jai Shri Ram!” as the effigy burned, according to the statement.

ISKCON thanked the dignitaries, county representatives, first responders, volunteers, devotees and families who participated in the celebration.
