India Wins 85 Asian Games Medals, Sweeps Three Team Sports

India concluded its 2026 Aichi Asian Games campaign with 85 medals, including 21 gold, finishing fourth behind China, host Japan and South Korea. The campaign featured gold medals in both the men’s and women’s competitions in hockey, kabaddi and cricket.

The hockey sweep marked a milestone for India. For the first time since the sport was introduced at the Asian Games in 1958, India won gold in both the men’s and women’s competitions. The Asian Games began in 1951.

The victories also secured direct qualification for both Indian hockey teams for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. India’s men’s and women’s teams completed similar gold medal sweeps in kabaddi and cricket.

The individual gold medal winners included Anil Kumkum Mohod in women’s individual recurve archery; Lovlina Borgohain in women’s 75 kg boxing; Parveen in women’s 68 kg boxing; Ankush in men’s 80 kg boxing; Pranavi Sharath Urs in women’s individual stroke play golf; Meenu Dhanda in women’s trap shooting; Aman in men’s 57 kg freestyle wrestling; and Sujeet in men’s 65 kg wrestling.

Women accounted for five of the eight individual gold medals listed. Indian women’s teams also won gold in archery, shooting, hockey, kabaddi and cricket.

Archery contributed nine medals, including five gold, while shooting produced 15 medals: three gold, eight silver and four bronze. Indian boxers added three gold and three bronze medals.

Track and field accounted for 24 medals, comprising one gold, nine silver and 14 bronze. The women’s 4×400-meter relay team won gold, while India secured silver and bronze in the javelin throw in the absence of Neeraj Chopra.

Wrestling contributed six medals, with two each in gold, silver and bronze. In squash, Abhay Singh and Anahat Singh lost their respective finals, as India finished with two silver and three bronze medals.

Sailing added one silver and two bronze medals, while rowing contributed a bronze. Weightlifting yielded one silver medal.

India won a gold and a silver in golf, both in the women’s competition. Kurush, mixed martial arts, soft tennis and table tennis contributed one bronze medal each. India finished without a medal in tennis.
