The Embassy of India in Washington, D.C. has announced the 85th edition of the flagship “Know India Programme” (KIP), set to take place from January 6 to 27, 2026. The initiative aims to expand participation among young members of the Indian diaspora.

According to a statement from the Embassy, nearly 3,000 youth of Indian origin have taken part in various KIP editions since its launch in 2003–04. The upcoming edition holds added significance as participants will join the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue (VBYLD) during the National Youth Festival on January 12, 2026.

“Focused on innovation, leadership, and collaboration, the VBYLD’s Challenge Track will engage youth from India and the diaspora to propose solutions across 10 national priority areas,” the Embassy said. “The 4-stage Challenge—online quiz, essay, presentations with leadership assessments, and a National Championship before the Prime Minister Narendra Modi—will also feature selected KIP participants.”

The Dialogue will bring together 3,000 young leaders across “Challenge, Cultural, Design, and Tech Tracks,” guided by “Pathbreaker” mentors. Its goal is to empower youth to contribute meaningfully toward the vision of a developed India by 2047.

KIP is designed for members of the Indian diaspora aged 21 to 35, offering exposure to contemporary India across areas including art, heritage, culture, economy, innovation, science, and technology. It also seeks to inspire participants to contribute to Government of India initiatives aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat.

Because the KIP online portal (https://kip.gov.in/) is currently non-functional, applications will be accepted via email following the timeline outlined by the Embassy.

Applicants residing within the Embassy of India, Washington, D.C.’s jurisdiction, which includes Bermuda, the District of Columbia, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia, are required to include their details in the specified MS Word format. Scanned copies of the completed application, educational qualifications, passport, recent color photograph, and PIO/OCI documentation must also be submitted within the stipulated period.

Highlighting the importance of the 85th KIP as part of India’s ongoing efforts to strengthen ties with the global Indian community, the Embassy urged diaspora associations and community leaders to help promote the program and encourage eligible youth to apply.
