Yami Gautam Dhar received a grand welcome in Patna with dhol beats as she arrived in the city ahead of the Dussehra release of Nayyi Navelli. During her visit, the actress also visited the Patna Sahib Gurudwara to seek blessings and spent a serene moment at the sacred space.
At an event in the city, Dhar also shared an interesting anecdote from her first day of shooting for Nayyi Navelli, revealing the unexpected dance challenge she took on for her song, Bhabhi tabaahi, in the film, which promises to be a quirky horror comedy.
Dhar revealed that she had to perform six different dance forms, from Bhangra to Moonwalk, for the song, with director Balaji Mohan simply asking for “Whatever you’re comfortable with… but just a bit of Moonwalk!” The actress was left stunned by the unexpected challenge but had a treat dancing to various dance forms.
Headlined by Dhar in a never-before-seen avatar, Nayyi Navelli is a fantasy family-entertainer, blending familiar Indian family dynamics with humor, action and spectacle.
Directed by Balaji Mohan and written by Himanshu Sharma and Divy Nidhi Sharma, the film is produced by Aanand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma. Presented by Amazon MGM Studios and Colour Yellow Productions,Nayyi Navelli arrives in cinemas on October 16 ahead of Dussehra.
Set in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, we see a picture-perfect new bride named Mohini (played by Dhar) enter a chaotic joint family and miraculously transform the dysfunctional household into a happy, peaceful environment. But suspicion arises when her brother-in-law begins to wonder if her flawless behavior hides a dark, supernatural secret—wondering if she might actually be a daayan (witch).
Dhar has been on a choosy high of late, with films like Article 370 (for which she won the National Best Actress award for 2024), Dhoom Dhaam and Haq apart from her small yet significant cameo in Dhurandhar The Revenge.
Addinath M. Kothare, Sunita Rajwar, Sonal Jha, Aaditya Kulshreshth, Mita Vashisht, Sushmita Mukherjee and Rajesh Dubeay star in the film, with music by G.V. Prakash Kumar. Vayu has written the lyrics.
Incidentally, with husband Aditya Dhar, the actress has now decided to shift permanently to Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, where she owns a 100 years-old heritage villa and a 25-acre plot. They were staying as of now in a rented apartment in the suburb of Khar in Mumbai. They will commute between Mandi and Mumbai for work.
