Indian American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi has strongly criticized President Donald Trump’s decision to impose a 26 percent tariff on Indian imports, warning that the move will drive up costs for American families and strain businesses in both the U.S. and India.

“President Trump’s latest blanket tariffs on India are not only misguided but also profoundly damaging to the economic, diplomatic, and security interests of the United States,” Congressman Krishamoorthi said in a statement. “At a time when our partnership with India is more crucial than ever to our shared prosperity and coordinated efforts to counter the military aggression and economic coercion of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), these tariffs place an unnecessary strain on our relationship with the world’s largest democracy.”

Krishnamoorthi called on President Trump to reconsider the tariffs, urging him to put the interests of American families first and roll back the harmful measures.

“The strength of the U.S.-India partnership, and our collective economic and national security in the face of authoritarian threats,” he added.
