The makers of Namit Malhotra’s Ramayana: Part One have unveiled the film’s highly-anticipated official trailer, captivating fans and audiences worldwide. The trailer was released in the early hours of July 30, 2026, across five Indian languages, including Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam.
Since the beginning of Time, the Trinity has ruled the three worlds: Brahma, the God who creates; Vishnu, the God who protects; and Shiva, the God who transforms. As the realms of heaven and earth edge toward chaos, Vishnu descends to earth in human form to restore balance. This time, Vishnu is reborn as Rama (Ranbir Kapoor) termed Ram in India. Opposing him is the formidable, learned, undefeatable and immortal demon king Raavana (Yash) called Raavan in India, who is blessed by the Trinity themselves and driven by pride and a vengeance powerful enough to shatter the cosmos.
Unaware of his true purpose as the only opponent destined to stand against Raavana in a fateful cosmic design, Rama is also the embodiment of Dharma (duty above all) and is the most loved crown prince of Ayodhya, the greatest human dynasty of the time. Rama tries to build a life of quiet honor with his beloved wife Sita (Sai Pallavi), loyal brother Lakshmana (Ravie Dubey), known as Lakshman in India, and those closest to him, until a twist of fate drives him into exile and toward an inevitable clash with Raavana, a reckoning so cataclysmic that it will decide the destiny of gods and mortals.
Namit Malhotra’s Ramayana brings together stalwarts including acclaimed filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari, whose storytelling has resonated with audiences around the world. His films have set box-office benchmarks, while remaining deeply rooted in Indian emotion and culture (Chillar Party, Dangal, Chhichhore, Bawaal).
He is joined by an extraordinary ensemble spanning generations of Indian cinema. Arun Govil, whose landmark television portrayal of Lord Rama captivated audiences across India and around the world in the 1980’s TV epic Ramayan and remains etched in the hearts of generations of Indians, now returns as King Dasharath, father of Rama. Shobhana plays Rama’s stepmother, Kaikeyi. Ajinkya Deo is sage Vishwamitra; Kunal Kapoor is Lord Indra and Rakul Preet Singh is Surpanakha. Sunny Deol, who has just begun shooting, will play Ram’s devotee, Hanuman.
Leading this ensemble are Ranbir Kapoor, portraying Lord Rama, a beloved and worshipped figure who has served as an enduring moral compass for generations across India and beyond. Sai Pallavi as Maa Sita, brings grace, strength and compassion to one of the most revered women in history, while Yash portrays the mighty and indestructible Raavana, one of the greatest and most formidable antagonists ever. Yash also co-produces Ramayanathrough his production company, Monster Mind Creations.
Adapted by award-winning screenwriter Shridhar Raghavan, Ramayana brings together an extraordinary constellation of Indian and international talent in one of cinema’s most ambitious East-West creative collaborations.
Production design reimagines ancient India at an unprecedented scale, led by Ravi Bansal and Ramsey Avery, while action is helmed by Hollywood’s leading stunt directors Terry Notary and Guy Norris. Ramayana features an original score by Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman.
The makers are presenting one of humanity’s oldest and most enduring stories with a scale, authenticity and cinematic ambition never attempted before. Namit Malhotra, producer and creative architect of the film, said, “The Ramayana is one of our greatest epics. Director Nitesh Tiwari adds, “Few stories have shaped our understanding of duty, courage, sacrifice and humanity as profoundly as the Ramayana.
