India has contributed an additional $1 million to India, Brazil, and South Africa (IBSA) Facility for Poverty and Hunger Alleviation Fund, reinforcing its commitment to global development.
On March 6, 2025, India’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Yojna Patel, presented the check to Kanni Wignaraja, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in New York.
“India, Brazil, and South Africa each contribute USD one million annually to the IBSA Fund, in a spirit of partnership. The Fund supports transformational projects in developing countries through a demand-driven approach,” stated the Permanent Mission of India. “India’s contribution to the IBSA Fund has cumulatively exceeded USD 19 million since the operationalization of the Fund in 2006. United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation serves as the Fund Manager and Secretariat of the IBSA Fund.”
According to PMI, the IBSA Fund embodies India’s commitment to the Global South by implementing impactful projects that address food security, poverty alleviation, access to clean water, HIV/AIDS, and the empowerment of women and youth. These efforts align with the broader goal of achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
To date, the IBSA Fund has allocated $54.3 million to support 49 projects across 38 countries, significantly contributing to social and economic development in the Global South.
