Organized by Anna Sudha Community Kitchens, a nonprofit known for feeding and empowering communities, and supported by the South Asian Business Council of Virginia (SABCVA), the Festival of Lights marked a milestone in Hillsboro’s cultural calendar.

Diwali, celebrated by millions worldwide, symbolizes the “triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and unity over division.” Hillsboro’s inaugural celebration embodied these values through music, dance, art, and cuisine, transforming the town into a radiant hub of cultural expression, according to a statement from SABCVA.

The program opened with a ceremony and keynote addresses by several distinguished guests, including: Roger Vance, Mayor of Hillsboro; Virginia Secretary of Trade and Commerce, Juan Pablo Segura; State Senator Kannan Srinivasan; Loudoun County School Board Member, Arben Istrefi; and Representatives from Wheels Global Foundation and Sewa USA.

Each speaker underscored the importance of “diversity, inclusivity, and the collective spirit of Diwali” in strengthening Virginia’s multicultural fabric.

A highlight of the evening was the Volunteer Recognition Ceremony, where Senator Srinivasan presented awards to Anna Sudha volunteers who had completed more than 100 hours of community service, lauding their dedication to serving others.

The event also featured cultural performances, including traditional dance, live music, and “Bliss Time” meditation sessions. Attendees enjoyed hands-on diya painting and Ganesha-making workshops, along with an array of flavorful Indian dishes that added to the festive spirit.

Mayor Roger Vance expressed his appreciation, noting that events like this “highlight Loudoun County’s growing cultural diversity and strong sense of community.”

Anna Sudha Community Kitchens continues its mission to end hunger and foster connection through volunteer-driven initiatives and cultural engagement, while SABCVA remains committed to connecting and empowering South Asian professionals, entrepreneurs, and leaders across the Commonwealth.
