The Consulate General of India in New York will partner with the Times Square Alliance to mark the International Day of Yoga on June 21, bringing one of the world’s largest public yoga gatherings to the heart of Manhattan.
The event, titled “2026 Solstice in Times Square: Mind Over Madness Yoga,” will take place at Broadway and West 46th Street and feature a special yoga session presented by the Indian Consulate.
The session will be led by Ruchika Lal, senior faculty member of the Art of Living Foundation. Lal, who has more than 15 years of experience teaching yoga and meditation, has conducted programs for the United Nations, major corporations and leading universities, including Wharton and Columbia. She currently serves as chairperson of the Art of Living Foundation USA.
Organizers have invited participants of all experience levels to join the sunrise session, which will combine yoga postures, guided breathing exercises and meditation. No prior experience or yoga mat is required.
The Consulate said noted yoga scholar and educator Dr. H.R. Nagendra will attend as chief guest.
This year’s International Day of Yoga will be observed under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” highlighting yoga’s role in promoting physical health, mental well-being and active ageing.
The annual observance is celebrated worldwide on June 21 under the auspices of the United Nations.
