The United States has canceled the visit of its representatives to Pakistan for talks with Iranian representatives at the last moment.

“I just canceled the trip of my representatives going to Islamabad, Pakistan, to meet with the Iranians,” US President Donald Trump announced late Saturday night.

He said too much time is wasted on traveling and there is too much work! Besides this, there is ‘tremendous infighting and confusion within their leadership,” Trump announced on his social media platform.

He said nobody knows who is in charge in Iran, including them. Also, the US has “all the cards, they have none,” Trump claimed.

He said “if Iranians want to talk, all they have to do is call.”

Iran had earlier announced that no meeting is planned with the US in Islamabad.

“No meeting is planned to take place between Iran and the US. Iran’s observations would be conveyed to Pakistan,” Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said on Saturday.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Islamabad late Friday night to meet Pakistani leadership and discuss the latest situation.

“We arrive in Islamabad for an official visit. Foreign Minister (Abbas) Araghchi will be meeting with Pakistani high-level officials in concert with their ongoing mediation and good offices for ending American imposed war of aggression and the restitution of peace in our region,” the spokesman said on X early Saturday.

Araghchi’s visit to Pakistan is part of his regional tour of Islamabad, Muscat, and Moscow for consultations on the current developments in the region and the latest status of the war.

US was scheduled to send special envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, and special envoy for Peace, Jared Kushner, to Pakistan for the talks.

Vice President J D Vance was not scheduled to travel to Pakistan for the talks.
