The University of Vermont has announced the appointment of Indian American Vikas Anand as Dean of the Grossman School of Business, citing his extensive experience in business school administration, strategic program development, accreditation, and global engagement.

Anand currently serves as Associate Dean for Academic Programs at the Poole College of Management at North Carolina State University, where he oversees undergraduate and graduate programs, executive education, global initiatives, career services, and marketing, according to a University of Vermont news release issued February 2. During his tenure, Poole has recorded notable “enrollment growth, curricular innovation, and enhanced student outcomes,” including strong national rankings and employment results.

“I am very excited for the new role and very grateful for all the opportunities and support at Poole College at NC State (and Walton College at U. of Arkansas before that). I look forward to meeting with and working with all the stakeholders of Grossman School,” stated Anand in a social media post in response to his appointment.

According to the release, Anand previously held several senior leadership roles at the University of Arkansas, including Executive Director of MBA Programs and Graduate Innovation, Chair of the Department of Management, and Executive Director of the George W. Edwards III Career Center.

“At the University of Arkansas, he managed a center with an endowment of $5.6 million and helped design and launch a reimagined MBA curriculum and new master’s programs emphasizing experiential learning that prepared students to succeed in dynamic environments,” the statement said, adding that under his leadership, EMBA enrollment increased from 120 to 200 students and the curriculum was redesigned to emphasize global immersion and data analytics.

“Dr. Anand’s extensive background as a researcher, an educator, and an administrative leader makes him an excellent choice to lead the Grossman School of Business,” said UVM President Marlene Tromp. “We’re thrilled to welcome him and to bring his skills, experience, and innovative energy to the academic leadership team at UVM.”

Anand earned his Ph.D. in Management from Arizona State University and has authored 28 peer-reviewed journal articles, with more than 6,000 citations. An award-winning teacher, he has taught at the undergraduate, MBA, and PhD levels and has mentored students and faculty throughout his career.

“Anand’s leadership is marked by a commitment to inclusive excellence, interdisciplinary collaboration, and innovation—evident in his development of sustainability and AI-focused programs, global study initiatives, and lifelong learning platforms,” the University of Vermont noted. With a background in international business and experience in institutional advancement, the release added that he brings a global and forward-looking approach to aligning business education with societal impact, industry relevance, and student success.

Commenting on the appointment, Provost Linda Schadler said, “Dr. Anand is a thoughtful and effective leader with a record of success on all fronts. UVM will especially benefit from his insights and experience with interdisciplinary programs in emerging areas.”
