The Great White Northern Spirits (GWNS) officially launched the “Indian Aisle in Canada” on May 21, 2026, at Nuvo Event Space in Canada, marking the entry of Indian spirits into Canada’s duty-free retail sector across major international travel hubs.
According to a statement, the initiative introduces Indian spirits to duty-free locations at Toronto Pearson International Airport, Vancouver International Airport, airports across Alberta, and several prominent land-border duty-free outlets in Ontario and British Columbia.
The event’s centerpiece was a grand ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the introduction of Indian heritage, craftsmanship, and premium products into mainstream international retail spaces, the statement said.
“The launch is being viewed as a significant milestone in India’s expanding global footprint, aligning with the country’s larger push over the past decade towards strengthening international partnerships, promoting Indian enterprise abroad, and taking Indian culture beyond borders,” the statement noted. “As India continues to emerge as a major economic and cultural force globally, initiatives such as the Indian Aisle reflect the growing international appetite for Indian products, stories and craftsmanship.”
The statement described the presence of Indian spirits in Canada’s premium duty-free retail ecosystem as more than a commercial development, calling it a reflection of India’s evolving global identity and growing recognition for Indian brands based on quality, authenticity, and heritage.
It further noted that the initiative underscores the strengthening relationship between India and Canada through trade, tourism, and cultural engagement. The visibility of Indian spirits across major Canadian travel hubs also highlights the influence of the Indian diaspora while creating opportunities for cultural exchange and bilateral business growth.
The statement added that as Indian cuisine, wellness, fashion, cinema, and artisanal products continue to gain international recognition, the Indian Aisle represents another avenue for expanding India’s cultural presence globally.
“Today is not just about launching products into a new market; it is about opening doors for Indian heritage, craftsmanship and stories to travel globally,” said Balaji Nagaraja of GWNS. “Canada’s multicultural identity makes it the perfect home for an initiative like the Indian Aisle. Through this platform, we hope to create stronger cultural connections, introduce travelers to the richness of Indian spirits, and build meaningful commercial opportunities between India and Canada. This launch represents the coming together of tradition, innovation and international collaboration.”
The launch event was attended by government officials, diplomatic representatives, cultural leaders, trade stakeholders, hospitality professionals, retail partners, members of the media, and representatives from the broader business community.
