The Consulate General of India (CGI) in New York hosted a roundtable on “India-US Partnership on Technology and Finance for Climate Action,” on September 26, 2024, at CGI, New York.
The event highlighted the shared commitment between India and the United States to advancing a green economy, expanding renewable technologies, and promoting public-private partnerships. It also included the release of the report titled “Strengthening India-US Relations on Climate Action.”
Former Secretary of State and Presidential Envoy for Climate, John Kerry, Director of the US Trade and Development Agency, Enoh T. Ebong, Deputy Secretary of State, Ambassador Richard Verma, Assistant Secretary for Energy Resources, Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt, and Founder, Chairman & CEO of ReNewCorp, Sumant Sinha discussed the progress India has achieved in renewables and climate action.
Secretary Kerry commended India’s leadership in climate action and noted, “India offers the highest return on investment per dollar in the renewable energy sector,” Ambassador Pyatt remarked, “It is my passionate belief that we have no more important energy and climate relationship in the world than our relationship with India.”
In his closing remarks, Ambassador Verma noted, “Energy has been really at the center of our relationship from the year 2000 forward.” He also underscored the significance of the ongoing ties between US and India on climate initiatives.
Consul General Binaya Pradhan emphasized India’s dedication to the energy transition, its Net Zero goals, and the recent initiatives by the Indian government, along with ongoing India-US collaboration in this area.
