In an important step to expand global exposure for students in the United States, the American Telugu Association (ATA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH).

IITH, established 16 years ago and currently ranked number 7 in Engineering and number 6 in Innovation by India’s National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), will host students of the Telugu diaspora through this collaboration.

The MoU, signed on September 25, 2025, in Washington, D.C., was described by ATA as a “significant collaboration aimed at creating internship opportunities for students of the Telugu diaspora at IITH’s world-class campus in Hyderabad.”

The agreement was formalized by Prof. B. S. Murty, Director of IITH, and Jayanth Challa, President of ATA.

Internships under the program may range from a few weeks to up to one year. The three-year agreement, with the option for extension, also opens avenues for joint research and enhanced U.S.-India people-to-people ties.

Prof. Murty underscored the uniqueness of the partnership, stating, “We are thrilled to collaborate with ATA, which aligns with our ongoing efforts to nurture global talent and foster meaningful research exposure. This is the first time IITH is signing an agreement outside of academic institution. This MoU strengthens the bridge between ATA and IITH, opening up exciting career-building opportunities for students from the Telugu diaspora.”

Challa echoed the significance of the collaboration, noting, “This collaboration is a monumental step in creating pathways for students to gain exposure to cutting-edge research and innovation. The partnership empowers our youth with valuable experience and insight into the fast-evolving world of technology and research.”

According to ATA, IITH will provide institutional, logistical, and infrastructural support for U.S. students participating in the program, while ATA will assist in identifying eligible candidates. To cover operational expenses, IITH will charge a nominal monthly fee per student.
