On April 16, 2025, the White House announced that Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance will embark on an official visit to Italy and India from April 18-24. This will Usha’s first visit to India as a Second Lady.

According to an official statement, the Vice President will engage with leaders in both countries to discuss mutual economic interests and shared geopolitical priorities.

In India, Vice President Vance is scheduled to visit New Delhi, Jaipur, and Agra. He will meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and participate in cultural engagements along with the Second Family.

The visit comes against the backdrop of ongoing tensions between Washington and New Delhi over trade tariffs. This marks the Vice President’s third international tour, following his February trip to France and Germany, and March visit to Greenland.

During the AI Summit in Paris in February, VP Vance met with PM Modi, where the two leaders held a cordial exchange. As a gesture of goodwill, Prime Minister Modi gifted a handcrafted, eco-friendly wooden alphabet set to the Vice President’s daughter, Mirabel Rose Vance, and joined the Vance family in celebrating the birthday of their son, Vivek.

On social media platform X, the Prime Minister wrote, “Had a wonderful meeting with US Vice President JD Vance and his family. We had a great conversation on various subjects. Delighted to join them in celebrating the joyous birthday of their son, Vivek!”

A few days later, the Vice President had met Prime Minister Modi on February 13th during PM Modi’s visit to the White House.

While in Rome, Vice President Vance will meet with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and hold discussions with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican Secretary of State.
