The month when Easter is globally celebrated, April, is also the birth month of several Hindi film denizens. Here is a look at 12 prominent names in entertainment today.

Ajay Devgn / April 2

Ajay Devgn is no more just an actor. He has been producer, director, singer and as a technology-savvy man, either personally handled or overviewed VFX and even stunt coordination in several of his movies. His company, NYVFXWala, continues its significant reign in cinema, and he also owns a chain of state-of-the-art multiplexes.

Kapil Sharma / April 2

Kapil Sharma continues to roar as the king of family comedy in India, occasionally moonlighting into acting and producing films. Having made his first mark over 20 years ago, Sharma can be now called a living legend with its global connect that has remain unsullied and unbeaten on TV with (now) The Great Indian Kapil Show.

Ram Gopal Varma / April 7

With some justification, he is called the enfant terrible of Hindi cinema. The one-time video library owner entered Hindi films with the modest success, Shiva in 1990, and later made memorable films like Rangeela, Satya, Bhootand Sarkar besides producing several others like Sarna Mana Hai and Ek Hasina Thi and introducing or mentoring Sriram Raghavan, Shimit Amin, Urmila Matondkar, Randeep Hooda and others. Of late, he has also been in the news for raving about Dhurandhar and predicting a cataclysmic change in the industry after it!

Jeetendra / April 7

The evergreen icon, who enters his 85th year, has gone from strength to strength from the mid-1960s to the early 1990s. Romancing heroines from four generations with a high proportion of hits and chartbusters, the actor has later concentrated on overseeing the output of Balaji Telefilms’ film and television work.

Rohini Hattangady / April 11

Over 170 films in Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, English and Gujarati, Marathi soap operas and theatre, as well as television and the web. What’s more, Rohini Hattangady is the only Indian actress to win the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her performance as Kasturba Gandhi in Gandhi (1982). And a National award for Party. Straddling all genres of cinema and roles, Hattangady has excelled in films like Munna Bhai MBBS, Chaalbaaz, Arth, Agneepath and others.

Mohit Suri / April 11

He slalomed into the big league after directing Saiyaara last year, following several turnips after his remarkable early films Zeher, Kalyug, Raaz—The Mystery Continues, Murder 2, Aashiqui 2 and Ek Villain. Based on his output, he is said to have a keen sense of music.

Amit Trivedi / April 8

Among the promising talents of the post-Pritam generation, composer Amit Trivedi struck it big with the hit Emosional atyachar in his first released film, Dev. D. The cult Iktara from Wake Up Sid! followed. From there to soundtracks like Chillar Party, Ishaqzaade, Queen, Lootera, Fitoor, AndhaDhun and Uunchai and we note his surefire progress among the youngest composers of substance.

Jaya Bachchan / April 9

The Guddi who could also be the wicked mother and wife in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahanii, Jaya Bachchan has proved her worth in multiple genres of movies and extremely variegated roles (Koshish, Shor, Jawani Diwani, Abhimaan, Uphaar, Kora Kagaz, Mili, Sholay, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham…) and more. What’s more, Mrs. Bachchan also was credited with the story idea of her husband, Amitabh Bachchan’s Shahenshah.

Arshad Warsi / April 19

He has not completely shaken off the tag of “Circuit” in the Munna Bhai franchise, but has been an integral part of laugh-riots like the Golmaal and Dhamaal franchises. Making his debut as the choreographer of the title-song of Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja (1993) featuring Anil Kapoor and Sridevi, he had his acting first with Tere Mere Sapne (1996) and proved his versatility in diverse roles in Sehar, the Jolly LLB franchise and Asur.

Manoj Bajpayee / April 23

He has admitted that his career, but for very few sparkling exceptions like Satya (Bhiku Mhatre became a cult character), Veer-Zaara, Raajneeti and Special 26, has been built more on flops! He began with Bandit Queen and has had emphatically better innings on TV with The Family Man and Farzi franchises. Of course, he has always been a consummate actor.

Varun Dhawan / April 24

The son of filmmaker David Dhawan, Varun has shown an exemplary range as actor, with roles as varied as Judwaa 2, Badlapur, Sui Dhaaga, Bhediya, Bawaal and Border 2. Though his last solo hits were Badrinath Ki Dulhania and Judwaa 2, almost a decade ago, he continues to be one of the highest-paid heroes from the younger lot.

Arijit Singh / April 25

The singer, who occasionally composes, and has sung in Hindi, Bengali (he is half-Sikh, half-Bengali) and other languages, became like a one-horse race in a playback singer scene that has traditionally seen at least three toppers at a time for decades. The man now actually has retired from playback at the age of 38, having been a part of Hindi cinema only for 15 years! As of now, the Tum hi ho (Aashiqui 2) singer plans to concentrate on non-film music of his own, besides doing his always packed shows.
