Cricket’s evolution from five-day Test matches to shorter formats has transformed it into a global entertainment powerhouse. Once limited to Commonwealth nations, the sport is now capturing attention in North America, where T10 tournaments and major leagues are reshaping its profile.

Last year, the United States co-hosted the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup with the West Indies. In 2028, cricket will feature in the Los Angeles Summer Olympics, underscoring its growing foothold in the region.

Adding to the momentum, Vancouver will host the inaugural Canada Super 60 from October 8–13, 2025, at BC Place. The tournament introduces a 10-over-a-side format with both men’s and women’s competitions — a global first.

In a major boost for the league, former India star Suresh Raina will play for the Toronto Sixers. Known for his explosive batting and agile fielding, Raina will join international names such as Alex Hales, Jason Roy, and Andre Fletcher.

“I’m really excited to be part of the Canada Super 60. Since this is the inaugural edition, it already feels special and promises to be a top-class tournament,” Raina said. “The Toronto Sixers have a well-balanced squad with big international names as well as Canadian talent, and I’m looking forward to contributing to the team’s success.”

Abhishek Shah, Founder and Chairman of Canada Super 60, highlighted the significance of Raina’s presence: “His presence brings not just star value but also a wealth of experience. Young and upcoming players will get the chance to learn from him, both on and off the field.”

Toronto Sixers CEO Sami Faridi added, “It’s a great privilege to have someone like Suresh Raina in our team. He is a World Cup winner and has played in some of the biggest tournaments in the world. His vast experience in the shorter format will be a big advantage for us.”

The Toronto Sixers open their campaign against Brampton Blitz on October 8.

Supported by Cricket Canada, the Canada Super 60 aims to put the country firmly on the world cricket map. Organizers describe it as more than a tournament — a celebration of sport, diversity, and opportunity — with the goal of elevating Canadian cricket and providing local players with global exposure.
