On December 28, 2024, the 92nd birth anniversary of Reliance Founder-Chairman Dhirubhai Ambani, Reliance Foundation announced the results of its prestigious undergraduate scholarships for the 2024-25 academic year in Mumbai, India. This year, 5,000 exceptional undergraduate students from across the country were selected from an applicant pool of nearly 100,000.
On Dhirubhai Ambani’s 90th birth anniversary in December 2022, Nita Ambani, founder and chairperson of Reliance Foundation, pledged to make the Foundation India’s largest private scholarship program by awarding 50,000 scholarships over a decade. Since then, Reliance Foundation has supported 5,100 students annually, including 100 postgraduate students and 5,000 undergraduate students.
This initiative underscores Reliance Foundation’s commitment to nurturing young talent and empowering future leaders. “The selected scholars will receive grants of up to Rs. 2 lakhs (USD $2,400) along with comprehensive capacity-building support throughout their academic journey,” the Foundation stated. The program ensures scholars can focus on their studies without financial concerns by offering training for skill development, workshops, seminars, and mentorship in addition to financial aid.
The Reliance Foundation Undergraduate Scholarships reach students from 540 districts across India, representing over 1,300 educational institutions. “These scholarships are part of the Foundation’s 2022 commitment to awarding 50,000 scholarships over 10 years,” the statement added.
The program emphasizes inclusivity, with over 70 per cent of the selected scholars coming from families earning less than Rs. 2.5 lakhs (USD $3,000) annually. Notably, 147 recipients are students with disabilities, and 83 per cent of scholars scored above 90 per cent in their Class XII examinations, reflecting the program’s dedication to diversity and excellence.
“We are privileged to recognize and support these exceptional young minds. Through the Reliance Foundation Undergraduate Scholarships, we aim to empower students to reach their full potential and make significant contributions to India’s growth story. The application call received an overwhelming response, with close to one lakh applications after which the 5000 selected scholars have been identified after a competitive process. Education is the key to unlocking opportunities, and we are proud to be a part of the transformative journeys of these students,” said a Reliance Foundation spokesperson.
