PM Modi’s New Buddha Day Message to the World: Operation Sindoor Is Now “India’s Policy Against Terrorism”

On the auspicious occasion of Buddha Purnima, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation and the world, delivering his first public statement since the launch of Operation Sindoor.

The Prime Minister declared on May 12, 2025, that Operation Sindoor had significantly evolved India’s national security strategy and confirmed that it is now the “India’s policy against terrorism.”

“This operation marks a decisive shift,” the Prime Minister said in his speech. “It has set a new standard, a new normal, in our counter-terrorism measures.”

The Prime Minister outlined the three foundational pillars of this new doctrine: Decisive Retaliation, No Tolerance for Nuclear Blackmail, and No Distinction Between Terror Sponsors and Terrorists. He explained that any terrorist attack on India will meet a strong, resolute response, with India retaliating on its own terms and targeting terror hubs at their roots.

He emphasized that India will not be deterred by nuclear threats, and terrorist safe havens hiding behind such threats will face precise, decisive strikes. He also stated that India will no longer differentiate between terrorist groups and the governments that support them. Both will be treated as part of the same threat ecosystem.

PM Modi pointed to the behavior of senior Pakistani military officials attending the funerals of eliminated terrorists, asserting that this is undeniable evidence of Pakistan’s ongoing involvement in state-sponsored terrorism.

While reaffirming that this is not an era of war, the Prime Minister made it clear that it cannot be one of terrorism either. National unity, he emphasized, is India’s greatest strength in this fight.

“Zero tolerance against terrorism is the guarantee of a better and safer world,” the Prime Minister stated underscoring India’s position remains firm on: talks and terror cannot coexist, trade and terror cannot run parallel, and blood and water cannot flow together.

Addressing the global community, he reiterated India’s long-standing policy that any discussions with Pakistan will focus solely on the issue of terrorism, with negotiations centered around Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK).

He went on to explain that during Operation Sindoor, the Indian Armed Forces conducted precise strikes on terror hideouts and infrastructure in Pakistan, eliminating over 100 militants, including long-standing operatives. Key hubs such as Bahawalpur and Muridke, locations with links to major global terror events like 9/11 and the London bombings, were targeted.

The Prime Minister also revealed that the action was in direct response to grave provocations, including attacks on the dignity of Indian women, reaffirming India’s commitment to the principle of Nation First. In retaliation, Pakistan launched indiscriminate attacks on Indian schools, temples, gurudwaras, and civilian homes — acts the Prime Minister called evidence of Pakistan’s desperation and moral collapse. However, India’s advanced air defense systems neutralized these threats swiftly, and subsequent counter-strikes inflicted severe damage on Pakistani airbases, delivering heavy losses in just three days.

Facing unexpected destruction and strategic defeat, according to him, Pakistan reached out to international powers and directly contacted India’s DGMO on May 10, pledging to cease all terrorist and military aggression. India responded by temporarily suspending its counter-operations — not as a conclusion but as a pause. The Prime Minister warned that India will closely monitor Pakistan’s actions, and any future course will depend on Pakistan’s adherence to its commitments.

Just hours before the Prime Minister’s address, U.S. President Donald Trump acknowledged in a press conference that his administration had helped broker a “full and immediate ceasefire” between India and Pakistan. While emphasizing U.S. diplomatic involvement and the strategic use of trade leverage, President Trump credited the leadership of both countries for understanding the gravity of the situation and showing strength in de-escalating the conflict.

Closing his address, the Prime Minister invoked the teachings of Lord Buddha, asserting that the path to peace must be underpinned by strength. “Humanity must progress towards peace and prosperity. Every Indian deserves to live with dignity, and our dream of a Viksit Bharat (developed India) must guide us,” he said.

He concluded by saluting the valor of the Indian Armed Forces and expressing profound gratitude for the courage and unity of the Indian people.
