The Overseas Friends of BJP (OFBJP-USA) organized community celebrations in the DMV area on September 17, 2025, to mark the 75th birthday of India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The event also commemorated Telangana Liberation Day.
Senior BJP leader, Member of Parliament, and former Union Minister, Parushottam Rupala, attended as the chief guest and was introduced by Sharad Doshi. Rupala highlighted Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, noting how initiatives such as the Jan Dhan Yojana had transformed India. He also reflected on the sacrifices of freedom fighters, emphasizing that “independent India would become best under the leadership of PM Modi,” according to an OFBJP statement.

The program opened with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, followed by the rendition of Vande Mataram. A presentation on the Modi government’s “transformative” achievements over the past 11 years was delivered by Srinivas Nathi.
OFBJP-USA president Adapa Prasad welcomed attendees and underscored the important role of the Indian diaspora in strengthening US–India relations.

As part of the program, Telangana Liberation Day, marking the state’s merger with the Union of India on September 17, 1948, was observed. Jagdish Bondugula presented the history of the Telangana struggle, recalling the decisive role of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Operation Polo, which led to the surrender of the Nizam.
Two cakes were cut to commemorate the dual occasion, one for Prime Minister Modi’s birthday and another for Telangana Liberation Day.
Earlier in the program, Rupala was felicitated by community members. Vice President of Gandhinagar BJP, Jaideep Bhai Barot, was also present.
The celebration brought together several community leaders, including Ashok Bhatt, Kanwaljit Singh Soni, and Chattar Singh Saini. Organizers Ramesh Kalwala, Kamalakar Nallala, Meetu Ahlawat, Lakshminarayana, and Krishna Gudipati, among others, helped coordinate the event. Srinath Nampally served as the emcee.
