On September 22, 2025, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week.
In a statement following the meeting, Secretary Rubio emphasized that India remains a “relationship of critical importance” to the United States. He also expressed appreciation for New Delhi’s continued engagement across a wide range of areas, including trade, defense, energy, pharmaceuticals, and critical minerals.
Both leaders agreed to deepen cooperation on global and regional priorities. They reaffirmed their commitment to advancing a free and open Indo-Pacific, including through close collaboration in the Quad framework.
“Our conversation covered a range of bilateral and international issues of current concern. Agreed on the importance of sustained engagement to progress on priority areas. We will remain in touch,” noted Minister Jaishankar.
