After throwing open to the public a full-size cricket ground last month, the City of Brampton is becoming the second-largest sporting centre in Ontario, as it has started working on the Cassie Campbell Field Hockey Multisport Training Dome, a new facility that will offer access to high-quality sporting opportunities year-round for all ages, skill levels, and abilities.
Brampton is currently playing host to Field Hockey Canada’s national championships for both junior men and women.
Field hockey and cricket are two major sports that attract immigrants in general and those from South Asia in particular. Brampton is considered the stronghold of the South Asian community. It also aims to become the cricket capital of Canada, as it is home to 23 cricket pitches and hosts competitions in the sport at the highest level, including the GT20, featuring some of the game’s great stars.
Located on the grounds of the Cassie Campbell Community Centre, this transformative project represents an investment of more than $19 million in active living, youth engagement, and inclusive recreation. The new air-supported dome will cover a new full-size turf hockey field. A new straight running track with long and triple jump sand pits, along with cricket and baseball batting cages, will also be housed within the dome for year-round accessibility. A comfort station with changing rooms and washrooms will be added as part of the dome project. The facility is anticipated to be complete in early 2026.
The Cassie Campbell Field Hockey Multisport Training Dome builds upon the legacy of the Cassie Campbell Community Centre, named after Brampton-born Olympian Cassie Campbell-Pascall. Since opening in 2008, the centre has been a hub for local athletes and families. The existing field and the future new field and dome will welcome youth, local, and professional field hockey and sports events, providing a platform for athletes of all levels to develop their skills and build community connections.

The Cassie Campbell Field Hockey Multisport Training Dome is part of Brampton’s broader commitment to winterizing recreation amenities to improve the availability of sports year-round. This includes the new Earnscliffe Park Cricket Facility, which will offer a winterized space for cricket enthusiasts once complete, and the recently opened Rosalea Park Tennis Facility, connecting more youth to the sport. Together, these projects strengthen Brampton’s position as a city dedicated to enhancing recreation and keeping residents active throughout the year.
Talking about the new hockey stadium, the Mayor of Brampton, Patrick Brown, said, “The Cassie Campbell Field Hockey Multisport Training Dome represents another important step in our ongoing commitment to providing year-round, high-quality recreation facilities for residents. With a strong community of passionate field hockey enthusiasts in Brampton, we are proud to support the growth of this sport locally. We remain focused on winterizing amenities in every corner of our city so that all residents can enjoy the benefits of recreation, no matter the season. Building upon projects such as the Earnscliffe Park Cricket Facility and the Rosalea Park Tennis Facility, we are ensuring that Brampton remains a leader in sport and community wellness.”
Earlier last month, the City of Brampton opened a new full-size cricket field at Creditview Sandalwood Park, further cementing its place as the cricket capital of Canada. This high-quality facility features top-tier amenities, including players’ pavilions, a scoreboard, sight screens, irrigation, and field lighting. This new field adds to the variety of amenities the park offers, including an accessible splash pad and playground, outdoor fitness equipment, and sports fields of various sizes to accommodate soccer, cricket, football, and lacrosse.
As the first new sports infrastructure project since the launch of Brampton’s new Sport Tourism Strategy, this facility marks a significant step forward in expanding the city’s growing inventory of sport venues, enhancing its ability to host local, provincial, and national-level events while supporting sport development opportunities for residents. With strong infrastructure, a growing population, and a strategic location, the city is well-positioned to become a leading hub for high-performance training and competition in Ontario and across Canada.
The Creditview Sandalwood Park Cricket Field builds on the city’s expanding cricket infrastructure, which includes a $25 million investment in the City of Brampton’s first dedicated year-round cricket facility currently under construction at Earnscliffe Park. Once completed by early 2026, it will offer indoor and outdoor cricket amenities, ensuring year-round access to the sport for Brampton residents and beyond.
Since cricket has been the fastest-growing sport in Canada and throughout North America, the City of Brampton has been committing itself to supporting individuals who play cricket in the community and to attracting new players to the game. It is investing approximately $10 million over the next two years to equip local cricket facilities with lighting and other enhancements.
The city’s cricket amenities host 70 unique seasonal organizations, tournaments, and individuals that book over 19,000 hours of field time. Opened in April 2025, and in partnership with the Peel District School Board, the city invested in bringing a new, fully lit cricket facility with artificial turf wickets and player pavilions to Turner Fenton Secondary School. This project is Brampton’s first joint-use cricket pitch with the Peel District School Board.
“Brampton is proud to be the cricket capital of Canada, and this new full-size field at Creditview Sandalwood Park is another major step in our commitment to the sport and our community. With top-tier infrastructure and one of the most passionate cricket fan bases in the country, Brampton is leading the way in creating opportunities for athletes to play, grow, and compete at every level. This new facility strengthens our ability to attract major tournaments and reinforces our vision of becoming Canada’s premier hub for high-performance sport and recreation,” says Patrick Brown, Mayor, City of Brampton.
Rowena Santos, Regional Councillor and Chair, Community Services Section, City of Brampton, says, “This project reflects our ongoing commitment to expanding access to sport and recreation in Brampton. I am proud of how this new facility supports the goals of our Sport Tourism Strategy and delivers a space where residents can train, compete, and connect. It encourages healthy and active lifestyles for residents of all ages, while also strengthening neighborhoods and building local pride. Brampton continues to lead the way when it comes to investing in infrastructure that brings our community together.”
“This cricket field means a great deal to families and players in the community. Residents have been eager to see more investments in sports infrastructure, and this facility delivers exactly that. It offers a quality space for training and competition, supports youth development, and creates new opportunities for local tournaments and events. It is exciting to see this kind of investment in Wards 2 and 6, and I look forward to the positive impact it will have for years to come,” adds Navjit Kaur Brar, Regional Councillor and Vice Chair, Community Services Section.
Praim Persaud, Vice President of Cricket Canada and Brampton Sports Hall of Fame inductee, while appreciating the new ground, says, “As a retired cricket player, president of the largest cricket league in the City of Brampton, and a person who has been working very closely with the city to build International Cricket Council standard facilities, I can say this new facility at Creditview Sandalwood Park is a game-changer for the sport in Brampton.
Having access to a full-size field with lighting, proper natural turf and AstroTurf wickets to satisfy all playing conditions, and dedicated amenities raises the standard for local and regional play. It is encouraging to see the city investing in infrastructure that supports player development and creates more opportunities for high-level competition. The city’s dedication and commitment to continue building high-quality facilities to meet the demands for the sport are both commendable and encouraging to the cricketing community in Brampton.”
