Maryland Lieutenant Governor Aruna K. Miller led a high-level state delegation to the University of Florida’s HiPerGator AI computing facility in Gainesville, reinforcing Maryland’s position as a global leader in cybersecurity, technology, and artificial intelligence (AI).
The visit, part of a collaborative exchange, provided Maryland leaders with insights into the successful integration of AI in higher education, workforce development, and economic growth. According to an official statement from the Lieutenant Governor’s office, the delegation also examined best practices for developing a responsible and ethical AI strategy to strengthen public institutions and address global challenges.
“The Moore-Miller Administration is committed to making Maryland a national leader in AI innovation,” said Lieutenant Governor Miller. “We are bringing together our brightest minds and boldest ideas to build an AI future that is inclusive, ethical, and beneficial to all Marylanders.”
The delegation included cabinet members, state officials, and representatives from Johns Hopkins University, Morgan State University, the University of Maryland, and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). These institutions are at the forefront of breakthroughs in AI, quantum science, life sciences, and engineering, progress driven by strategic investments in top-tier talent and advanced infrastructure.
“The remarkable advancements in AI taking place in Maryland highlight the critical need for a statewide approach and robust computing facilities,” said Maryland Higher Education Secretary Sanjay Rai. “These resources are essential to fully realize the potential of current investments and propel Maryland to the forefront of AI innovation.”
