Voting rights attorney Anuj Dixit has announced that he is ending his campaign for California’s 48th Congressional District, highlighting the effects of Proposition 50 on the shape and “dynamics” of the newly redrawn district.

In a statement released on November 19, Dixit said, “Proposition 50 has geographically reshaped the dynamics of this race. Accordingly, I am ending my campaign for the new CA-48. I’m grateful to everyone who supported my campaign,” while noting that his dedication to protecting democratic participation remains steadfast.

He reaffirmed that his commitment to “safeguarding every individual’s voice in our democracy – and to confronting those who seek to undermine that fundamental right – remains unwavering.”

Dixit added that “the choices our leaders make today will define not only the strength of our democratic institutions but also the economic opportunity available to our community for generations to come.” He said he intends to support efforts to flip the district in next year’s general election, pledging to do “everything he can” to help turn the seat blue in November.

According to his campaign, Dixit raised $430,000 within the first five months, marking the second-highest amount in the Democratic primary field among candidates who did not loan personal funds to their campaigns. His endorsements included Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland, ASPIRE PAC, Indian American Impact, AAPI Victory Fund, and the Asian American Action Fund.

A Riverside County native, Dixit grew up on March Air Force Base, where he was raised with strong values of service and community. The son of immigrants, he is the child of a six-year U.S. Air Force veteran. As an attorney, Dixit has built a career focused on defending voting rights, challenging unlawful gerrymandering, preparing expert and victim testimonies for congressional hearings, clerking for a federal judge, and taking on complex legal cases at the national level.
