Vice President, Kamala Harris, the presumptive Democratic nominee, officially announced her candidacy for President of the United States. Her announcement followed a significant endorsement from former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, who expressed their support during a phone call to Harris.
“I signed the forms officially declaring my candidacy for President of the United States.
I will work hard to earn every vote. And in November, our people-powered campaign will win,” tweeted VP Harris on July 26, 2024.
“I am proud of you. This is going to be historic,” expressed the former First Lady along with former President Obama in a phone call to VP Harris.
President Obama emphasized, “We called to say, Michelle and I couldn’t be prouder to endorse you and to do everything we can to get you through this election and into the Oval Office.”
A statement from the Obamas referred to VP Harris as their “friend,” whom they have known for over two decades adding they were “thrilled to endorse Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee for President of the United States.”
“We agree with President Biden — choosing Kamala was one of the best decisions he’s made. She has the resume to prove it: As a prosecutor, she defended the Constitution and fought for folks who deserve a fair shake. As California’s Attorney General, she worked hard to ensure everyone was treated fairly, no matter who they are or who they love,” added the statement. “As a Senator, she was one of the strongest voices holding the Trump administration accountable. And, as Vice President, she helped lead the charge on expanding the Affordable Care Act, combating climate change, fighting for reproductive freedom, equality, and the rule of law.”
The Obamas said VP Harris not only has an impressive resume but also possesses the vision, character, and strength needed in this critical moment. They are confident that VP Harris has “what it takes to win this election and deliver for the American people.”
In these high-stakes times, VP Harris gives them a “reason to hope,” added the Obamas.
“We know over the next few months, Kamala will continue to make her case directly to the American people — Democrats, Republicans, and independents alike. As she does, she will have our full support — and we look forward to watching her unite our party and our country around a vision for a brighter, fairer, more prosperous future,” the Obamas underscored adding they are committed to doing everything possible to ensure VP Harris is elected as the next President of the United States.
