Texas Governor Celebrates Diwali at the Governor’s Mansion with South Asian Community

Texas Governor Greg Abbott hosted Diwali celebrations on November 3, 2024, at the Governor’s Mansion in Austin. He was joined by Consul General of India in Houston, Manjunath Chennarappa, along with members of the South Asian community.

Governor Abbott has upheld this tradition, celebrating Diwali with the Indo-American community to highlight the “spirit of light and unity.”

Diwali celebrations took place across Texas, reflecting the state’s vibrant South Asian community, with several organizations and city councils hosting their own festivities.

Consul General Chennarappa also joined San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg, city council members, and other elected officials for ‘San Antonio Diwali 2024,’ an event co-organized by the City of San Antonio and Anuja SA, the San Antonio-Chennai Sister City Alliance. 

Thousands of attendees gathered to enjoy lively festivities, savor diverse Indian cuisines, and witness captivating cultural performances, which showcased the essence of Diwali and strengthened the bond between India and San Antonio.
