As part of the nationwide Sewa Diwali initiative, three community organizations, the India Association of Greater Boston (IAGB), HSS Satsang Shakha in Burlington, and Dwarkamai Sai Temple in Billerica, partnered to donate 2,943 pounds of food to the Burlington Food Pantry, supporting local families during the holiday season.

State Senator Cindy Friedman joined volunteers from IAGB, Indian Americans for Burlington (IAB), and HSS Satsang Shakha at the donation event. The gathering highlighted the community’s shared commitment to service and collaboration, according to a statement from IAGB.

The joint effort underscores the values of Sewa, or selfless service, and reflects the Indian American community’s ongoing dedication to supporting their neighbors. Volunteers collected, sorted, and delivered food items to help ensure that the pantry remained well stocked for families across Burlington, the statement said.

“Sewa Diwali is more than a food drive, it is a celebration of giving and gratitude,” said Nilesh Agrawal, president of IAGB. “We are proud to partner with HSS Satsang Shakha and Dwarkamai Sai Temple, and grateful to have the support of Senator Friedman and our community volunteers in making a meaningful impact.”

Organizers also thanked the Burlington Food Pantry for its continued service and for welcoming the donation. The nearly 3,000 pounds of food will help provide essential supplies for households facing food insecurity throughout the holiday period, IAGB noted.

Sewa Diwali, observed nationwide, brings together diverse communities to support local neighborhoods through food drives and charitable programs. The Burlington effort is part of this broader movement, demonstrating how collective action can strengthen community impact.

IAGB and its partner organizations reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing service efforts and to fostering unity through initiatives that reflect the spirit of Sewa.
